The remark follows President Trump doubling down on his intention to annex Greenland.
Denmark’s defense ministry confirmed on Wednesday that a 1952 rule requires soldiers to immediately counter attack invading forces without waiting for orders. The ministry added that the rule remains in force, the Telegraph reported.
On Tuesday, the White House announced that Trump is considering acquiring Greenland and may utilize the U.S. military if needed.
“President Trump has made it well known that acquiring Greenland is a national security priority of the United States, and it’s vital to deter our adversaries in the Arctic region,” the White House told Reuters.
“The president and his team are discussing a range of options to pursue this important foreign policy goal, and of course, utilizing the U.S. military is always an option at the commander in chief’s disposal.”
