We don’t talk enough about the connection between the slow death of local journalism and the emergence of Trumpism. As someone who worked in scores of campaigns, I’ve seen how campaigns & candidates operate differently with no local coverage.

Home town newspapers were a public square that more often than not valued decency and civic virtue. They fought lies & corruption. We’ve mostly lost that and Trumpism has flourished.

Now MS is at a crisis point because of the refusal to address and just say no. So the question now become a perceived poor solution or closures!

Financially stable hospitals in our rural community’s does not help attract industry? Call ROI what you want but we receive many more $s than we pay out.

@RussLatino I am old enough to remember when Republicans cared about economic development of rural MS. I recently spent 8 hrs with my brother in St D ER - 7 of which he was in a hallway! If your idea of rural hospitals simply being triage units. We better fix the system in our Jax hospitals!
