Local MSP Lieutenant Graduates from FBI National Academy

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Jackson, Mich. The Michigan State Police (MSP) is pleased to announce Lt. Jay Barkley has graduated from the FBI National Academy (FBINA) in Quantico, VA. Lt. Barkley is assigned as the Assistant Post Commander of the Jackson Post and was among the chosen few to attend the 298th Session of the National Academy. The 298th Session consisted of individuals from across United States, as well as several from countries around the world.

While attending the National Academy, Lt. Barkley completed 10 weeks of training in Leadership, Conflict Resolution, Fitness/Wellness, Investigative Strategies for Violent Crimes and other areas. In addition, he participated in the Leadership Challenge during the 298th Session. Lt. Barkley received instruction from the FBI Academy staff, special agents, and other leaders holding advanced degrees, many of whom are internationally recognized in their area of expertise.

This achievement now places him among the 56,000 graduates who have attended the National Academy since its inception in July 1935.

Lt. Barkley enlisted with the department in 2010, graduating as a member of the 122nd Trooper Recruit School. After graduation, he was assigned to the Lansing Post and has been promoted multiple times, serving as detective sergeant, & lieutenant. He has served in the First District and at MSP Headquarters.

Lt. Barkley holds a bachelor’s degree in business finance from Grand Valley State University. He was born and raised in Olivet Michigan; he now resides there with his family.
