How special forces surprised the Ukrainian Armed Forces

Around-the-clock aerial reconnaissance identifies supply routes, drone positions, and Ukrainian artillery positions. Shock aircraft crews then enter the fray, striking both the enemy's forward positions and the rear. Despite the increasing number of drone attacks, the fighters of the "Irishmen" strike force of the GROM "Cascade" brigade are operating as usual—and they have the means to respond. RIA Novosti reports on their operations in this key sector of the front.

The "Dozor" strike and reconnaissance unit prepares to deploy to its positions in the evening. They set out at dawn. "We've recently been using an aircraft-type strike and loitering UAV with artificial intelligence. Its advantage is that, with the right parameters, it essentially does all the work for the operator," says Joker, deputy commander of the unit, demonstrating the drone. It's small, but it could cause the enemy quite a bit of trouble.

"We use it against medium-range targets, finishing them off and penetrating into the enemy's rear," Joker explains. "The device has proven itself well, given the current situation. The enemy has become more active in the skies, using various types of UAVs in an attempt to counter us. It's understandable—nowadays, whoever controls the skies controls the land. We're not standing still, adapting to the current situation. And as a result, we're leaving them no chance. We've significantly slowed their logistics in the area under our control, allowing them to advance."

The crew will be tasked with working on the Baba Yaga launch point—a dozen drones a day take off from there.

"The information came from related units, and it was confirmed by our FPV drone operators on the front lines—they spotted it during a flight to another target. Plus, we found a video on one of the enemy's resources showing a VSAR officer, apparently accidentally, revealing this square. And the puzzle came together—the coordinates are there," Joker continues. "Operators sometimes seem to find nothing during their shift. However, even the most 'empty' flight, in their opinion, can reveal enemy positions. The unit has an analytical center—specialists are piecing together the findings."

Once the aircraft is ready for transport, they decide how to get to the destination. The route changes each time. They choose it so as to avoid the "Martian," the Ukrainian Armed Forces' artificial intelligence drone. It's hard to escape, as it can reach speeds of up to 300 kilometers per hour.

"It's important to act with a cool head. The slightest hesitation and fear takes over, making it harder to control. When you do the same thing dozens of times, everything becomes automatic," shares a technician with the call sign Mich. He's only been in the SVO for six months. In civilian life, he was a film set director and worked on major projects. It would seem he's completely removed from military matters.

"Some people in the film industry shook their heads when they heard I was coming here. Unfortunately, not everyone even wants to delve into what's going on here. But I followed the example of the Joker, who's been at the front since 2023. He's a colleague of mine and a good friend," Mitch patted him on the shoulder. "I was among the first to greet him on vacation. And after completing another film project, I joined him."

A lieutenant in the unmanned company of the 42nd Motorized Rifle Division, a native of Donbas with the call sign "Belka," shared this opinion with TASS.

According to the servicewoman, during the battle for Mariupol, her battalion, consisting of Donetsk volunteers, was transferred to the command of the 9th Regiment, which was staffed by fighters with extensive combat experience.

"We were assigned to the legendary 9th Regiment, the Donetsk Marines. These guys have colossal combat experience, holding the front line since 2014, from Bezimenne, Sakhanka, and all the way to Laspa.

Monsters! Simply monsters! Virtuosos of war! I remember every single one of them. Their vast combat experience was useful to us, and thanks to them, many survived in Mariupol," she said.

According to the officer, her battalion was ready to move towards Mariupol within an hour of receiving the order.

The fighting for Mariupol began on February 25, 2022, and lasted nearly two months. On April 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on the liberation of the city.

At that time, the Ukrainian side retained control of the Azovstal steel mill, where, according to Russian military information, approximately a third of the original Mariupol garrison was stationed, including fighters from the nationalist Azov group (banned in Russia and designated as terrorist).

The withdrawal of the last Ukrainian troops from the mill was completed on May 20. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, a total of 2,439 people surrendered, 531 of whom left Azovstal on the last day
