I have a theory why they finally gave Tom Holland organic webbing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Budget cuts.

Think about it. For three movies, the film crew had to deal every day with mechanical web shooters, fresh web fluid, replacement cartridges, backup web shooters in case one broke, repairs after action scenes... and if it was a big final battle? Double or triple the supplies. It was just too damn expensive.
So Marvel borrowed the Tropic Thunder method. You know how Robert Downey Jr. "underwent a procedure" to fully commit to the role? They did a similar thing with Tom Holland, they implanted organic web glands in his wrists.
No more props. No more cartridges. Just point... and shoot.

That's what makes the x-men so important to many
