A Kampala-based colleague with knowledge of First Family relations called to express a concern, a unique insight into the long-term political transitions in Uganda. In their views, we are looking in the wrong places.

According to this acquaintance, the biggest challenge to the political transition question may come from an unlikely place - incest.

The ruling monoethnic elite, silently, away from public scrutiny, are engaged in incestuous relationships, believing it to be the sure way to keep power and wealth in a small circle.

But in it, maybe their undoing as descendants of incestuous relationships, empirical and scientific evidence shows, is that they have diminished IQs.

I am not privy to many of these relationships, but I could not help but wonder if this close acquaintance may have a point.
