Most people will fall into one of the following categories...
Read down below to find out how you can improve based on where you are currently at in your trading career:
This is why I do not care about win rate. Sure it feels good to win all the time... but complacency in the market is like a slow poison. Doesn't matter how good you think you are, the market will eventually remind you that risk management is the only thing you can really control.
Even though I don't touch smallcaps anymore, just wanted to comment on the recent activity I've seen. I mentioned years ago short selling would become too crowded. Not surprising since it is one of the most high probability strategies in the market. 98% of the time you are right.
What about that 2% of the time? This is where many retail traders get smoked. They get adapted to winning all the time and their risk management takes a vacation. A "black swan" play comes along, rips 100%, 300%, 500%, 1000%... Boom. All those wins wiped out.
@ColossalMiracle Totally agree! Focusing only on 1 or 2 instruments eveyday is a game changer. Best part is no more locates so I pay about 1-2% of profits in fees vs 10-20%+ before. Wish I had started trading futures/options much sooner.
I have been trading $ES & $SPX. Very happy with the transition and it has been going great. Highly suggest looking into futures or options if you are a smallcap trader. There is so much opportunity every day. Be warned though... You may never want to trade smallcaps again 😉
Just wanted to give an update in this thread while responding to a DM. I will not be using twitter much anymore. I've provided all that I can here for traders and now focusing 100% on my own trading. Will still post mental game talk/recaps on YT since I enjoy doing those!
For the past few weeks it has been very clear bulls are in control. Price action and trend have been extremely bullish as dips continue to get bought. I caught some of my biggest R/R trades on the long side recently. The only reason to be shorting this trend is purely ego.
Many people come into trading thinking they need to be taking action all the time. That worked for their previous career, It doesn't work in trading. Your job is to wait.. and wait.. and wait... Until you see something that screams at you to put your hard earned capital at risk.
Stop looking at your p/l as an indication of your performance. Following the same repetitive rules is the job, not making money. Profitable trading is very boring... If you find yourself seeking a thrill in the market like most traders do, your business will eventually go broke.
Yes, unfortunately it was not by choice. Had a very bad experience with previous broker... Never going back to them. As a Canadian, we have no legit brokers for shorting SC so my hand was forced to learn options instead. I'll be honest, I prefer options trading 100x over SC now.
You must know the market context each day before you place a trade. Determine if it is balanced(tight range) or imbalanced(trend day). You can trade both profitably by simply adapting to the context. Scalp the range on balanced days - Join the trend on imbalance days 📈 $SPY $SPX
@cl_cook It is impossible to predict but you can use the price action and bigger picture context to give you a good idea. If we are in a supply/demand zone, I always assume balanced action until proven otherwise with confirmation. Anticipating imbalance is what will get you chopped up.
I water fast for 24hrs at least 1-2 each month. Not only does it provide health benefits, it also allows me to practice discipline when strong urges kick in. You will be fine without food for the day just like you will be fine without putting on any trades for the day.
