A few years ago, I was invited to speak at an event alongside some of the most gifted communicators in the country. It should’ve been an honor—but I was distracted.
Backstage, I watched one speaker captivate the room with humor that had people doubled over in laughter. The next delivered a message so deep and moving, you could feel the silence in the room. And instead of focusing on the people I was there to serve, I sat in the green room silently comparing myself to everyone else.
He’s funnier. He’s smarter. She’s more polished.
And just like that, I lost sight of my own voice. I got so caught up in their gifts, I started second-guessing my own.
Right before I went on stage, I took a breath and prayed, “God, help me remember why You called me here. I don’t need to be anyone else. I just need to be faithful with what You gave me.”
That shift changed everything.
Because the truth is: Comparison will always rob you. It blinds you to your own blessings. It makes you resent what you were meant to rejoice in. And worst of all, it distracts you from the assignment that only you can carry out.
-You weren’t called to run someone else’s race.
-You weren’t made to echo someone else’s voice.
-You were created on purpose, with purpose.
So today—run your race. Use your voice. Max out your gifts. And be fully present in the lane God has given you.
That’s where the joy is. That’s where the impact is.
