I’ve had a front-row seat to one @baseballhall candidate my whole life — my dad, @dalemurphh3.
People talk about the “character clause” keeping guys out. For him, it’s the opposite — his character is a reason we often say to put him in. I see it on display constantly: camping with his grandkids, hyping up crowds with my daughter in the DR, planning surprise picnics for his granddaughters, and he and my mom pouring their lives into helping my brother with special needs live a full, joyful life. It’s not just the big things you see in public. He does the little things too.
But make no mistake. On the field, he was one of the most dominant players of the ’80s. And baseball fans everywhere remember it. I hope we can remember the dominant ones of the 80s this weekend.
I don’t expect anything on the field anymore. The organization is rotten to its core and they will never field a consistent winner. What angers me now is this group of @ChicagoBears executives riding in the luxury car of the gravy train, raking in NFL money while doing nothing.
The mistake CFB made was introducing super conferences. These 16-18 team leagues create situations where teams can avoid all good teams in a league and then we get a situation like Indiana, a mediocre team who got to pretend they were good.
Make conferences the right size again.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Eddie Dunning, who started working for the athletics department in 1983. Every year since 1984, he painted the Gamecock at midfield and was named teammate of the year in 2011.
For 20 years, Eddie volunteered to deliver food to his Calhoun County community through Harvest Hope Food. In 2017, he received the WISTV/Mungo Homes Community Builder Award for his volunteer community service.
He will be greatly missed.
