That’s a wrap! On Tuesday evening we held the 30th Annual Pregnant and Parenting Resource Forum at Georgetown University. It was a great success! 🎉
Students, faculty, staff, and community members all came together to reflect on how the university currently helps students, and what they can do better to support pregnant and parenting people in their communities.
Special thank you to our panelists from Georgetown University, The Catholic University of America, and Capitol Hill Pregnancy Center, and to everyone who made this event possible! Here’s to 3️⃣0️⃣ years!

For the past 30 years, our organization has been gathering on college campuses to ask two questions: what resources are already available for pregnant and parenting students on campus, and what can we do better to support them?
Since then, campuses across the country have been transformed through the work of students, campus leaders, faculty, staff, and community members coming together to do better for student parents. Under our new banner of Women Deserve Better, we hope to reach more campuses than ever before with our model of assessing, connecting, and improving conditions together.

On Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, we honor every child whose life ended far too soon and hold close the parents who carry that love and grief each day. Though their children may have rested in their arms only briefly, or never at all, they remain forever part of their families and forever cherished.
As Feminists for Life heads into this new era, we invite you to take a moment and read this letter of hope from our new Executive Director, Kara! (Continued in comments…) #prolife#feminism#WomenDeserveBetter
From the start, women in college often feel they must prove themselves in many ways — be smart, be kind, be beautiful, be helpful. It’s like carrying many heavy boxes: one for schoolwork, one for appearance, and one for helping others. Over time, that weight can make them feel exhausted.
Women deserve not just spaces of learning — but places of kindness, safety, and understanding. See if your campus has the following:
• Free or low-cost counseling so that money isn’t a barrier
• Groups just for women to talk in a safe place about body image, stress, trauma, relationships
• Counseling staff who are trained and reflect different cultures and backgrounds that match your experiences

Other things men against abortion can do:
-don't accept "mind your own business" or "no uterus no opinion"
-speak unwaveringly about your own experiences
-have useful conversations with your pro-choice friends

Fannie Lou Hamer, born this week in 1917, was the youngest of 20 children. Calling abortion "legal murder" and "genocide," the Civil Rights leader famously declared, "No one is free until everyone is free."
Like thousands of other African-American women, Hamer was forcibly sterilized by the government, a procedure euphemistically called a "Mississippi appendectomy." Her adopted daughter died when she was not treated due to discriminatory treatment at a hospital. When her son-in-law came back from Vietnam disabled, Hamer and her husband adopted their grandchildren.
At the 1969 White House Conference on Food, Nutrition and Health, Hamer successfully stopped Charles Lowe and Alan Guttmacher — the latter of whom was the second president of Planned Parenthood — from enacting plans for compulsory first-trimester abortion of nonmarital pregnancies and compulsory sterilization of young women who gave birth.
Condemning the actions of those who would simultaneously criticize poor minority mothers while putting obstacles in their way to work, Hamer said, "We still love those children. And after these babies are born, we are not going to disband these children from our families.... I think these children have a right to live. And I think these mothers have a right to support them in a decent way.... We are dealing with human beings."
Will we see you there? 🏙️

Q: What about all those kids in foster care that nobody wants?
A: Many of the children waiting to be adopted are waiting because of legal processes, not a lack of loving homes. There are two million pre-approved American couples awaiting adoption. Two million women want to be mothers right now, and many of them want more than one child, as well as wanting children with special needs.
On a personal note, my father was a foster child. (No pun intended on my last name!)
His father died when he was just a year old, during the Great Depression. My grandmother could not care for him, and so he grew up in an orphanage and later in foster care.
As a little boy he lived through unspeakable horrors until he was rescued by a loving couple.
But you can never tell me that my father’s life wasn’t worth living. He wasn’t the problem. Lack of emotional support and practical resources were the real enemies.
My father was a parenting student. I was born and my sister was on the way. My parents also took care of the childless elderly couple who had taken in my father as a little boy, until those two lovely people passed away.
My father had a powerful presence. Intense, smart, articulate, persuasive. He had a contagious laugh. He was a professor who got standing ovations from his peers as well as students, and was loved by his family and friends.
He put his unique stamp on life. It was “a wonderful life” and, like the movie, many stories would have had different endings (or no beginning) if he had never lived at all.
I am honored to work for Feminists for Life, helping to create a better world, one that welcomes and nurtures children like my dad, who some would label “better off if they had never been born.” A world where parenting students don’t have to choose between their children and their education. A world where life is championed at its weakest, most vulnerable moments. A world where mothers — and fathers — are honored and supported.
