Very good observations. Yes, Fauda serieses 1-4 all tried to inject as much "both sides" "balance" as their far-left Israeli writers could put in. Politically they come from the very left side of Israeli politics, the side in Israel which cheered the Oslo "Peace Process" (I call it the Deceit Process today). They cheered Israel's complete pull out from Gaza of all civilians and soldiers in 2005. They hate Bibi.

They would gladly have removed all Jews from the hills above Tel Aviv and around Jerusalem and believed that we would get peace from that.

They accepted the years of rocket fire mostly on the towns in southern Israel with the occasional rocket to Tel Aviv or Jerusalem and other "important" places. We had Iron Dome so we just tried to ignore it.

This point of view is almost as completely eradicated post Oct 7th though it creeps back amongst the stupid.

This is the "conception" which the predominantly left wing army and intelligence leadership had arrived at on October 6th that the Gazans were rich enough and well kept enough. Just this week we heard from a shocked ShinBet commander who didn't understand what Sinwar was doing at 06:29 on October 7th, she thought they had an agreement.

Episodes 7 & 8 are brilliantly done representations of a dozen or more individual real stories which Israelis have all heard from the news or from our friends and family here in Israel in the last 3 years. Everybody knows somebody who was there or was killed that day.

Last night I was at an event and just happened to be talking to someone who survived in the bomb shelter into which multiple hand grenades were thrown (a hero called Aner Elyakim Shapira threw out the first 7 or so but he was killed eventually).

I spoke also to an elite unit soldier who, just like Doron and Steve, drove from his home with his gun straight into the fight, he was there with a chap whose son he had saved.

Each of the elements of what Steve, Doron and Eli did come from real life stories we've heard but usually only in the Hebrew media.

They murdered Israeli Muslims (especially Bedouin) there's terrible racism in the Arabs. There was much more and worse which they didn't show and the scale of it is hard to comprehend till you walk around the Kibbutzim or the site of Nova or you realise how far into Israel they came (many kms, 20 or 30 minutes driving from Gaza).

For people like me, who have studied Islam, nothing they did that day was a surprise, that's what gives me the most internal pain. This barbarity was always waiting to explode because it's exactly what Mohammed did. Unfortunately too much of Israeli society and the security forces have tried to ignore what Islam teaches. I don't know if this is changing now.

Here’s what the media doesn’t tell you about the caricature of Israel you have in your mind.

In less than two hours, over 7 million Jewish Israelis will mark Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish calendar. Some will go to synagogue. Some will go to the beach. Nobody will drive unless they have to. Many will not eat or drink for 25 hours, religious or not.

Then you have over 2 million Arab Israelis who will go on with their lives as usual. Many will not drive in mixed cities out of respect for their Jewish neighbors. Nobody will drive in Jewish neighborhoods. And the hospitals will only be filled with Arab doctors and nurses to let their Jewish colleagues observe the day at home. (The opposite happens on Ramadan.)

Not long ago I went out to run a few last-minute errands before the holiday begins. Every Arab I interacted with – at the dry cleaners, in the supermarket, in the elevator – wished me an easy fast.

Every one.

It happens every holiday. Any holiday. Their holidays and ours.

This is the real Israel. A country filled with Jews and Arabs that get along better than anywhere else on this planet, that nobody shows you because it’s simply not newsworthy.

It’s everyday life.

To all those who observe – have an easy fast.

That Israelis were slaughtered.
Women were sexually assaulted.
Families were burned out of their homes.
