Trying to use this weekend to regroup, but school is ALWAYS on my mind.
Reminders to self:
I canNOT do it all.
I only have students for 80min/day.
I cannot read minds.
One size does not fit all.
I cannot help all students recoup learning loss at the same time I teach new info.
As educators, we're facing new challenges this year, but our greatest challenge is keeping the focus to meet the needs of every student. It's imperative that we keep students from falling through the cracks during these difficult times. We are educators! We can do this!
This is good, proactive classroom management: A 2018 study found that strategies like greeting kids at the door improved academic engagement and good behavior. A piece I edited for @edutopia. #WelcomingWorks
Teachers, never lose sight that your students are a work in progress & not a finished product. Some will become titans of industry, war heroes, sports star, public servants, or even a mechanic, & they all need adults to be patient, believe in them, and help bring out their best!
“Whatever student needs to be successful should be where we begin. If we keep that in the forefront, we will always be on the right path.” https://t.co/3NR5K7wYfC
I appreciate empathetic educators. Their job is more stressful… because they feel the pain and struggles that their students endure. But their job is infinitely more rewarding… because they’re the ones who truly touch the lives of their students.
Some believe when we give #students second chances for things like missed work, not being prepared, or not arriving on time, we are enabling them.
I’d argue we are showing them compassion, #kindness & understanding are quite acceptable responses in #life.

Super important. Don’t ask others to be learners if you are not willing to be the first learner in any position you hold. @DrJimmyShaw is our lead learner at #FCSLearn and everybody knows it. Set the culture through modeling and collaboration. #ALEdChat
Showing empathy, compassion & patience to students doesn't mean you are soft & weak.
In fact, far from it.
It means you are strong enough to care who they are today & who they’ll become tomorrow.
