Yet the worst cities are disproportionately located in red states. That’s at least partly because cities are also subject to state-level laws.

When Ukraine did request to join, they were repeatedly rejected - largely to appease Russia.

Before the war, NATO repeatedly refused Ukraine’s requests to join - while Sweden and Finland were happy to remain out of the alliance.

Putin has made NATO more vital and relevant than it has been in decades.
