President Biden's Letter on the Continuation of the National Emergency with Respect to Ethiopia
President Biden has submitted a letter to the Speaker of the House and the President of the Senate, addressing the extension of the national emergency regarding Ethiopia. In his letter, the President underscores the ongoing situation in northern Ethiopia, where actions threatening the peace, security, and stability of Ethiopia and the broader Horn of Africa region continue. He emphasizes that these activities pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy interests of the United States.
As a result, President Biden has determined that it is necessary to continue the national emergency declared in Executive Order 14046. A notice has been sent to the Federal Register, confirming that the national emergency declared on September 17, 2021, will remain in effect beyond September 17, 2024.
The American Ethiopian Public Affairs Committee (AEPAC) supports President Biden's decision to extend this national emergency.
Additionally, it is critical that the United Nations, African Union, and European Union step up to their responsibilities in helping stop the Ethiopian government's deplorable actions, including the killing of its own citizens using heavy weaponry, drones, and other lethal means.

🚨Opinion
Ethiopia should invest in long-range strike capabilities and modern air defense systems. As the saying goes, If you want peace, prepare for war.
AEPAC is immensely proud of Nebiyu Asfaw, our dedicated community leader, and the Denver team for their outstanding achievement in organizing the nationally recognized event, "The Taste of Ethiopia," for 10 consecutive years. This event has become a remarkable success story within the Ethiopian American community and was recently honored by the Denver City Council, which unanimously passed Proclamation 24-1103 in recognition of the festival’s 10th anniversary.
Kudos to Nebiyu and Team Denver !!!

2024 Congressional Endorsements
The American Ethiopian Public Affairs Committee (AEPAC) has released its list of 2024 congressional endorsees, selected based on criteria established by its election committee. This list will be updated as additional candidates receive approval from the National Election Committee (NECC) and the AEPAC board.
AEPAC chapters, in coordination with the national organization, will mobilize resources to support endorsed candidates in their respective regions. This is especially critical in highly competitive states, often referred as “swing states”.

Think of what Abiy Ahmed said and tell me if he has not lost his mind. "Borrowing from the IMF and the World Bank is like borrowing from one's mother." Really? The first leader of a country with the audacity equating Ethiopia's debt burden with jou. Shame!! Shame!!
US Gov statement on SecState Blinken's call with Kenya Prez Ruto is an example of why China is eating America's lunch all across Africa. Blinken telling Ruto of what's in Kenya's Constitution is well intentioned but arrogant! See Mathew 7:3-5 in Bible.

The BBC, The Guardian, Al Jazeera and several diaspora media outlets, including ESAN TV have reported landslides in the Gofa District of Southern Ethiopia, resulting in the loss of about 500 lives, including entire families in some cases. The American Ethiopian Public Affairs Committee (AEPAC) expresses its heartfelt condolences to those affected and urges Ethiopian Americans and all members of the Ethiopian diaspora to support the relief efforts by contacting the Global Alliance for the Rights of Ethiopians at https://t.co/cXDE7NhTlE or any other relief organization of your choice.

The American Ethiopian Public Affairs Committee (AEPAC) is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, a true friend of Ethiopia and Ethiopian Americans, and a champion of the people she served. Our deepest condolences to her family.
The American Ethiopian Public Affairs Committee (AEPAC) congratulates our 2022 endorsed Senate candidate,
J. D. Vance of Ohio, on accepting the Vice Presidential nomination from the Republican Party. Congratulations, Senator J.D. Vance!

South Sudan becomes the 6th country to ratify the Cooperative Framework Agreement (CFA)….CFA can now come into force! A significant milestone for the Nile basin countries, 27 years of work, and a basis for equitable water use in the basin.

Here is my take on why comparing Ethiopia with Singapore is absurd.
For these people, the best lessons are readily available, not in Singapore or Korea, but in their backyards. The unmissable lessons are lying under their feet. With open hearts and minds, they should visit the millions of internally displaced fellow Ethiopians. They should see the pile of charred bodies of children and women burned alive by drone and artillery attacks by the regime. They should visit the concentration camps where hundreds of thousands, including members of parliament and city councils, are illegally held and tortured. They need to have the courage to ask the reformer-turned-tyrant why 9 million schoolchildren are out of school. Why have their schools and clinics been destroyed?

Today, I was honored to meet Rep. Jerry Carl (R-AL) in his office. Honorable Carl sits on the House Appropriations Committee and also member of the House Natural Resources Committee. I made briefing on key issues related to US-Ethiopia bilateral relations, economic development, peace and stability situations in the Horn of Africa and some of the constraints like AGOA exclusion and its impact on livelihood of poor people particularly on Women and Young people. #Ethiopia is historically a close ally of USA with over 120 years of diplomatic relations. It is vital to advance the bilateral relationship of our two nations to strategic partnership level.
