This morning, my pastor said, "Peace does not happen at a distance, it happens when we [children of God] roll up our sleeves and love our neighbour." I have been thinking about that all day.
Sixty-six years after independence, Nigeria’s journey has been shaped by promises of security, economic growth, jobs and better infrastructure.
As the country marks 66 years of independence, we look at the promises made, reforms introduced and challenges that continue to shape everyday life.
The question remains: Are Nigerians living the promises of independence?

New: A Florida county discovered Flock cameras along its roads that officials didn’t know were there.
No one has publicly claimed them. Who has operated them — and who has had access to their data — remains a mystery.

We have a man who had nothing to do with the Cornell case being falsely accused because of mistaken identity AND a woman falsely identified as Jane Doe being harassed. Ugly all around. You don't have to go after people that way to deal with the important issues at play.
@CathyYoung63@EdwardJSofel else is open to conspiracy. You are doing That Thing Again.
Hostin's opinion ≠ evidence, but nonetheless, here is my take on it from days ago. Again: I'm not against patient neutrality, but that's not what ur doing. You're being very biased, presumptuous, & hostile to new info.
This is the form that any skepticism around such charged yet sensitive matters should take: Measured, fact-based, respectful, and (if possible) informed by years of real-world experience.
I do not think Jane Doe lied, but I understand why a former prosecutor would have questions
@CathyYoung63@EdwardJSofel It IS a crucial detail, hence why CBS reported on it, unless you're accusing them of fabricating it. If that's the case, then what's *your* evidence for that? You seem to only take everything that you think matches your preferred series of events at face value, while everything
@CathyYoung63@EdwardJSofel The article is linked below the video by CBS themselves. The correspondent also explains in the short video.
You are still doing the exact thing myself & others have repeatedly brought to your attention: Refusing to engage with new information outside of your pet details/links.
I went back to actually reading aloud for 30minutes everyday because my verbal dexterity was diminishing! I was rushing through words, not finishing pronunciations plus had a terrible breathing technique when presenting! Glad to report that I have improved so much!
@offbeatorbit You said a few weeks ago that Lorenz was backtracking from making/amplifying allegations that you killed your husband via y'all's wedding.
I remembered her doing that, but couldn't find the proof today. When I searched, it's because she's mass-deleted posts, like in this thread:
One more time folks. If there's a trial, or an indictment, or a charge, I'll look at the legal issues. It's entirely possible 1-7 of these guys are not guilty of any crime beyond a reasonable doubt.
But the facts and circumstances around the "free pussy" snap are not defensible.
This is the best thing I’ve read on this so far. It gets at harder, more important questions than just the law. Those young men might in fact be legally innocent. (I don’t know.) But as a society, we can’t want men or boys to act this way. If that’s prudish, fine. I’m guilty. 1/
I sincerely believe that after botched attempts, the State should not be allowed to try again on that person. Clearly they've shown that they are derelict in carrying out such a serious penalty, so their punishment should be their forfeit of claim over the offender's life.
Unbelieveable. Officials were unable to carry out the execution of Christa Gail Pike, witnesses said, after the lethal injection was administered. Pike appeared to receive 2 doses of pentobarbital, and she was still awake 40 minutes after. Pike is now en route to the hosptial.
This is also *part of* why I'm against the death penalty in the first place. I've read dozens of stories of botched executions like this one from the past few decades. Nobody is saying to mass release these criminals, but this nonsense cannot stand in an allegedly humane society.
The death penalty is one of the few issues where we see true radical centrism: one side is pro-execution, the other is anti-execution, so we compromise by waiting two decades and then doing half of an execution. Somehow everybody loses
@CathyYoung63@EdwardJSofel She told police in 2024 that they were beating her very hard and said that she was "100% [sic] raped". Doubt she felt safe to refuse.
You seem determined to ignore any further details of the incident. I agree with patient neutrality, but that's objectively not what you're doing.
The Jane Doe in the Cornell University case told campus police weeks after the alleged assault in 2024 that she can say "with 100% confidence I was raped," according to the transcript obtained by CBS News New York. Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten said Tuesday that he never saw a transcript of a conversation between an alleged rape victim and investigators showing what she told campus police before his office decided not to bring charges.
Cornell conducted an internal investigation into the alleged fraternity gang rape that occurred Oct. 19-20, 2024, and led to expulsions, suspensions and other sanctions. Criminal charges, however, were not pursued, and prosecutors have now reopened their criminal investigation.
@lilialuciano has more.
I am disgusted with Christa Pike's crimes.
But this is why people argue that the death penalty is cruel and unusual punishment. Complications often occur during lethal injections since prison staff performing the injections don't have medical training on how to insert an IV and administer the drugs.
Doctors and medical professionals can't perform executions due to their oath to "do no harm." So, you have instances like this where the inmate lingers and doesn't die but suffers unduly.
