The greatest England performance and memory of my lifetime happened 30 years ago today.
1996, the best summer ever, was really starting to hit its stride by then.
After a draw with Switzerland and a win over Scotland, the Netherlands were next.
Revenge for the World Cup qualifying debacle nearly three years earlier was high on everyone’s — well, my — agenda.
What happened that night at Wembley was absolutely magical. The football was thrilling, the atmosphere electric and England played with a confidence and swagger that seemed almost impossible to believe.
What a performance. What a team.
We couldn’t, could we? 😉
@nickwebb2017 Same for us (somerset), thurs, fri then sun. Strange isnt it. Players & team must be knackered. Craig O not missed a game this season
Who would be the most expensive player in Premier League history adjusting for football inflation (increase in total revenue for the PL per season)? It has to be the greatest goalscorer...the one and only @alanshearer at an inflation adjusted £223.3m when signing for Newcastle. He also appears at £100.2m when signing for Blackburn. @rioferdy5 appears twice in the top dozen signings
@PilgrimPetey Agreed. Crazy turnaround. Struggled to see TC in a job by Xmas, fair play. With a similar budget next season, if we sign Mitch and a half decent keeper we've got a great chance 👍
@HodgeLuke 👍 he did great for Truro, need to give him a chance for 4 games really. Keeping Tolaj key next yr but think we should go close really, need to sign Mitch & a centre mid
