The Esty Dee thing is a bastardization, creating a joke where there was originally none, while AA converts jokes that existed in the original work into a new language. The name itself changes precisely so that the core meaning can be kept and recognized.

@RSnowcraft @Scratch_Point_Z Sweeping rewrites, censorship, and character assassination are indeed huge problems in localization, but I think it's understandable to present an English-speaking audience with a guy whose job it is to understand and find the truth, and call him "Wright" instead of "Naruhodo."

@RSnowcraft @Scratch_Point_Z How? Often times the Japanese names of AA characters are already silly wordplay, and to preserve those names 1:1 in translation would lose the entire joke. When the authorial intent is a pun, localizing the name to a comparable pun so the new demographic can get it is fine, no?

@no1gladionfan Also wanna clarify, just because I'm saying Lida did something careless at her friend's expense, I'm not arguing Naveen is innocent either. He also has his flaws for sure. I'm not arguing any of this is bad. These little wrinkles make them far more interesting as characters.

@no1gladionfan Little bro got peer pressured, he was clearly uncomfortable doing it but he gave in because Lida insisted. And then what would have happened if he lost and still refused to talk? He'd have looked lame for going back on his word. It was his "choice," but he didn't really have one.

@no1gladionfan And don't get me wrong I love this game's friend group. The fact that they actually CAN be flawed, mess with and have beef with each other, makes them feel like a huge improvement over previous "friendly rivals." But for that reason, don't pretend Lida is a saint 100% of the time

In the first few hours of the game she forces Naveen to wager his personal backstory in a battle against the new trainer who everybody recognizes as being incredibly strong and talented, then awkwardly laughs it off when he runs away in embarrassment.

The games never say anything about age as a reason for starting your adventure. The most you get is something like "all boys leave home at some point" in RBY, I believe
