I say haunted tapes because they all distort as if their very material embodies a "presence". Think of Japanese techno-horror films like Ringu (1998) or Pulse (2001).

Another thing I love about this is the found footage aesthetic that is going on here. I also love that it's silent and the only thing you can hear is the sound of the whirring technology! This reminds me of screentests! These very well could be screentests or (haunted) audition tapes.

it is very rewarding to see an artist always on the journey of discovery and constant reinvention and to communicate his complex ideas so very creatively. this is just the first concept teaser. we are most definitely in for a ride. kim taehyung has truly emerged as one of the most creative and original forces in the korean music industry and it's still only the beginning.

a small thread on beauty, kpop, and kim taehyung: normally we see the idea of beauty in kpop along lines of the delicate, the pretty, the soft, the angelic. while many visuals have expressed themselves in wilder and darker ways, it is still something that is not often seen. beauty is usually safe. +

so with 非, taehyung seems to be posing a challenge. reversing expectations, reversing standards, reversing traditions, reversing his own representations, and how visuals and the idea of beauty is typically constructed. hence, we now see him unkempt. we now see him wild. +
