₹3,154 crore is the budget of @mybmc for monsoon preparedness. Yet Mumbai is drowning in potholes, trees are collapsing and taking innocent lives, people are falling into open manholes, and every spell of rain exposes the city’s failures.

Waterlogging after heavy rainfall is common in many global cities. What isn’t common is people losing their lives because of corruption, negligence, and a complete lack of political will.

We get the government we vote for. When we choose identity over governance, incompetence becomes the price we all pay.

The counting process is not something candidates and political parties can afford to take lightly. The following incident is a prime example of why.

For political parties and candidates, expertise in ECI counting-day procedures and compliance is no longer optional — it is essential.

• How do you observe and verify EVM counting?
• How do you verify Form 17C (Part I)?
• What is the process of recording EVM vote counts through Form 17C (Part II)?
• What are PST and PET?
• What are the provisions under Rule 56D?
• What are the legal grounds and eligibility for recounting?
• What is the difference between recounting and re-totaling?
• Have your counting agents and Chief Election Agents received proper training?
• Do they have ready-to-use objection formats for every stage of counting?

Raising questions is easy. Working systematically to safeguard every vote is difficult.

For the last few days, the white-line controversy has been the talk of the town. What is disappointing is seeing @prasadvedpathak being threatened and targeted simply for raising questions.

Jainism and Buddhism emerged around the 6th century BCE, and both placed non-violence at the center of their teachings. As far as I understand, one of the historical reasons monks walked barefoot was that most footwear was made of leather, which conflicted with the principle of ahimsa.

I may not have the complete picture, and I’m open to correction. But one thing history teaches us is that Mahavir himself questioned the customs and beliefs of his time in pursuit of truth. Asking questions should never be seen as an attack on faith.
