महाराष्ट्र अनेक आघाड्यांवर मागे पडतो आहे.

जन्माला येणाऱ्या मुलींची संख्या पहा. एका सरकारी सर्वेक्षणानुसार महाराष्ट्रात दर १,००० मुलगे जन्म घेतात तेंव्हा फक्त ८९९ मुलींचा जन्म होतो आहे. हे चांगलं नाही. देशाची सरासरी ९१८ आहे. आपण बिहारच्या बरोबर आहोत.

असं का होतंय आणि असंच होत राहिलं तर काय होईल?

असं होतंय ह्याचं एक कारण असं असू शकतं की बेकायदा असलेली गर्भलिंगनिदान परीक्षा सर्रास होत असणार आणि प्रशासनाचं त्याकडे लक्ष नसणार. अधिक खोलात गेल्यावर असंही दिसतं की मुलींचे जन्म कमी होणं हे शहरात जास्त घडतंय. ह्याचाही अर्थ उघड आहे. प्रशासनानी शहरात जास्त लक्ष ठेवायला हवं.

काही वर्षांनी मुलांना लग्नासाठी मुलीच मिळणार नाहीत. लोकसंख्येत असमतोल तयार होईल. त्याचे अनेक सामाजिक परिणाम होतील.

अजून एक निरीक्षण असं आहे की महाराष्ट्राचा एकूण प्रजनन दर अवघा १.४ आहे. राष्ट्रीय सरासरी १.९ आहे आणि बिहारचा दर २.९ आहे. म्हणजे महाराष्ट्राच्या मानानं बिहारमध्ये जास्त मुलं जन्माला येत आहेत. म्हणजे अजून दोन दशकानंतर महाराष्ट्रात तरूण कामकरी माणसं कमी उपलब्ध असतील. कामगार बाहेरूनच यावे लागतील.

ह्या सगळ्या गोष्टींवर प्रशासनाचं लक्ष हवं, कारण ह्याचे परिणाम लगेच दिसणार नाहीत, परंतु महाराष्ट्राच्या दृष्टीनं एक दूरवरचा धोका ह्यातनं लक्षात येतो.
