🔥 Workers in Ontario are rising up. Join us!
The Workers’ Action Centre connects with new workers every day, so it’s an opportune time to (re)introduce ourselves for those new and old.
💪 We’re a worker-led organization, building a movement for #DecentWork in Ontario and #StatusForAll.
Nobody should be working yet not making ends meet. 🍂
This Thanksgiving, thousands of food hampers will be prepared for workers and their families who are struggling to pay their bills and keep a roof over their heads. We are in a crisis of decent work.
Too many workers are forced into temporary and precarious jobs that don’t have benefits, don’t qualify for Employment Insurance (EI), and sometimes don’t even pay wages! And the Ontario Ministry of Labour is allowing this crisis to persist.
That’s why we’re organizing to build a stronger movement 💪 for decent work to fight collectively for our rights and to make sure the government does its job.

Being paid less than minimum wage? ⚠️ That’s WAGE THEFT! ⚠️
Now that we have a new #minimumwage, here are a few reminders for your next paycheque.
1. Adult employees cannot be paid less than the general minimum wage of $17.95.
2. You cannot sign away your rights.
3. Only young students get paid less than the general minimum wage ($16.90).
4. Minimum wage applies to all workers, regardless of immigration status.
If you think you are experiencing wage theft or are unsure, 📞 call the Workers’ Action Centre at (416) 531-0778.
On October 1st, 2026, workers earning Ontario's general #minimumwage will receive a 35¢ increase to $17.95 per hour. But we know this is not enough!
The yearly minimum wage cost of living adjustments we won in 2014 lag behind what workers need, especially as many have their pay stolen by their employers, and our government allows it to happen.
If you are being paid below the minimum wage or are unsure, call the Workers’ Action Centre at (416) 531-0778 for free and confidential support.
We’re marching with Grassy Narrows First Nation!
📣 Join the Workers’ Action Centre as we march with Grassy Narrows youth, leaders, and community members on Wednesday, September 23rd at 12pm at Grange Park to demand the paper mill be shut down and the community be adequately compensated.
The devastating mercury crisis in Grassy Narrows First Nation has persisted for decades, ever since a pulp mill discharged 10 tonnes of mercury waste upstream in the 1960s. To this day, the government has done almost nothing, and the people of Grassy Narrows have not received fair compensation for the serious impacts of the ongoing mercury crisis on their health, culture, and livelihoods.
📍 WAC Meeting Spot: 12pm in front of the elephant sculpture at the corner of Dundas and McCaul Street (Art Gallery of Ontario)

🦋 Meet WAC Member Araceli.
Experiencing #WageTheft while working as a cleaner, she came to the Workers’ Action Centre (WAC) to learn more about her rights. What she found was a community ready to support her and the fight for her wages. In the end, she recovered all of her stolen wages!
📣 Her message to other workers: whether you are undocumented or not, you have rights at work!

#EmploymentInsurance#WorkersRights#Canada#Tariffs
The latest tariff crisis requires urgent action to fix Employment Insurance (EI), now and forever.
EI should help in times like these, but unfortunately most unemployed workers, especially those in low wage and unstable jobs, don’t get EI when they need it.
Carney’s recently announced changes to EI, are yet again temporary, and miss the mark. An EI system that works for workers in precarious jobs, would benefit all workers.
