Woke up at 5am with a random thought: if I owned Lagos Life @LagosLifeApp , how would I keep customers coming back?
My answer? @Shalom_HeyEliy Go the Pokémon Go route.
Hide digital gems at spots across Lagos. Lekki, Yaba, Ikeja, the Island, the Mainland.
Users open the app, explore the city, find the gems and win prizes. Some gems are easy to find. Some are rare and worth much more.
Drop a few new ones every week so people always have a reason to check back.
Now think about what that does.
Users keep opening the app because there's always something new to hunt. Partner restaurants, malls and lounges host gems and get real foot traffic. Brands sponsor rare drops for visibility. People share their finds online and pull their friends in. The app stops being something you use once and becomes something you play.
Retention isn't just about discounts and push notifications. Give people a reason to come back that feels fun, not forced.
Turn the virtual city into the real life game. 🎮📍
I’m not sure we fully understand how significant this is
$500k raised in less than a week of launch, 4m+ users, $170+ rev…. It’s absolutely insane
I’ve always believed that with the tech available today, profound products would emerge from Africa…the talent was never the problem, the minds, creativity, technical skills were always here
what held many people back was the cost of getting started…. Time was the most expensive thing, then you needed a team, some funds just to get a product to market
AI has changed that narrative… the cost of building and launching products is falling and more people can now turn ideas into reality without needing the resources that used to be ablocker
Lagoslife is a glimpse of what’s possible and I know so much more will come out of Africa. Shalom has broken a mental barrier for many of us, showing us what’s possible when African builders have the tools to bring their ideas to life
Now is the best time to build. Start now!
🤣🤣 fifth time I’m seeing this
when the conversations started, even I told her not to think twice about it! That funding is going to unlock so much for builders, people are beginning to see what’s possible
so no, there was no dog eat dog situation or sidelining… Shalom and I spoke about it well beforehand and we couldn’t have been more excited to have powered Lagos Life to where it got
and honestly this is still one of the biggest wins for Bachs… The publicity, the growth and most importantly, the validation that what we set out to build is real
we’re here to help builders win, seeing Lagoslife succeed at this scale is a huge win for us too!
🚨 Big Scoop 🚨
Vatar Inc., the parent company of viral gaming sensation Lagos Life, raises $500,000 in pre-seed from some of African tech's most recognisable names – at a $10 million valuation.
Lagos Life co-founder and CEO @Shalom_HeyEliy opened and closed the round in 24 hours!
Flutterwave CEO @TechProd_Arch backed the round through his fund, @R17_Ventures, along with Terra Industries CEO @_KingNath, Mono CEO & Flutterwave Chief Product Officer @ijbguy, and Angel Investor @OoTheNigerian.
The $500,000 will go into improving the product: a premium interface, more depth, and creating more games for the company.
Lagos Life has been on a generational run. In eight days, it’s crossed 4 million players, made $170,000 in revenue, and expanded to two cities.
I have not seen anything like it in years.
You people actually sat down, looked at your screens, and believed a random browser game amassed 1 million Nigerian users in 72 hours organically? In this economy?
Dey play.
This is 2026 and you all still have not woken up!
What you are currently addicted to is the most aggressive CIA data-harvesting and psychological pacification operation deployed in West Africa since the Cold War.
