I’ve not kept up with the debate, so can someone please give me a rundown of why I’m seeing people on the right defending the use of Flock cameras? Because it looks like we’re $40 trillion in debt on our way to national bankruptcy, and elites are buying up farmland & building bunkers while they create a digital police state to protect themselves from what’s coming. Flock cameras are only one part of a “constellation” of surveillance tech.

And that national security apparatus is quickly moving into something worse than just surveillance.

They’re using surveillance tech to build an AI-powered “predictive” crime apparatus.

What is more harmful: continuing to believe in a fairy tale while government programs fail, public services deteriorate and our institutions stop serving the people, or honestly acknowledging these problems so we can begin fixing them?

Calling out what is broken is not mean or unpatriotic. It is our responsibility as citizens. Democracy depends on people being willing to question government, confront failure and demand better.

And before we become outraged by uncomfortable truths, we should ask: what is that outrage actually getting us? It certainly is not fixing anything. It only protects the illusion and prevents an honest conversation about what has gone wrong.

And where was this same sense of moral outrage when citizens stood up to the government and were ridiculed, threatened, excluded, punished and publicly attacked simply for questioning those in power?

Perhaps it is easier to attack the person telling the truth than to admit that the story we have been telling ourselves is no longer true.

If we genuinely want things to improve, we must stop defending the illusion and start confronting reality.

@rupasubramanya Carney holds an un-elected majority, there has been no hint of eastern Canada changing how they vote. At what point do you leave an abusive spouse? Even in America they've gone back and forth between parties. We've had the same for 15 years, and have just locked in for another 2.

@furmsies Last I checked Canada ranked last in the G7 for economic growth, it's been near stagnant for almost 15 years. But I'm sure that's all part of the plan.
