There's something a lot of Kenyans don't understand about the composition of County assemblies and how they have to meet the not more than 2/3rd gender rule
It is a jungle out there. One that leads to a lot of disorganisation and favouritsm
Unlike Nationla Assembly which has 47 elected women reps and 12 other seats to represent special interests, counties don't have a fixed number for 'top up' seats
County assemblies add “the number of special seat members necessary” so that no gender exceeds two-thirds AFTER THE ELECTION!
That means if you elect a 100 men as MCAs in a County with a 100 wards, political parties will have to nominate 50 extra women to make sure no one gender is more than 2/3rds of the assembly
Let's use Nairobi as an example. It has 85 wards. In 2022, voters elected 4 women and 81 men, so the elected house was about 95 per cent male. Then four marginalised seats to cover youth and people with disabilities. Two women and two men in Nairobi’s case. That left 6 women and 83 men. The gender top-up followed. 35 seats, all women, shared among parties by wards won and taken in the order on each party’s list.
The gazetted house was 124 members before the Speaker: 41 women and 83 men. A strict two-thirds would have needed one more woman, but you get the point
What does this often mean about the quality of nominees? The party owns the list, the voter never sees it, and the seat is safe for five years. The rational use of a safe seat is to pay a debt campaign money, a family claim, a region that lost the primaries, a woman who was asked to step down for a man
Its a closed system of reward, and the slots meant for inclusion are being recycled among the already connected. In counties that elect no women at all, the same seats are often still allocated by elders and party men. The woman enters. She does not choose herself.
Client confidentiality extends even when you've ceased acting. The matter of withdrawal from a suit is also strictly between you as the advocate, the client and the court. Calling a presser with all this information that no one needed to know is just shady business.
Uganda sent 5: UK sent 6: Others had between 5-10 delegates to UNGA. Your country sent a staggering 84. Weep for your taxes. Hawa wanasaga mali yetu kusaga!
Gnamokode!
I have been suspended from the @Senate_KE for three sitting days for REFUSING to withdraw the word “yapping” in describing the President’s ROADSIDE declaration on undocumented immigrants.
I respect the Chair, but I will not surrender the constitutional duty to speak truth to power.
Article 135 requires PRESIDENTIAL decisions made under the Constitution to be in WRITING , SEALED and SIGNED. A roadside utterance cannot acquire the force of law simply because it comes from the President.
If calling out UNCONSTITUTIONAL governance is punishable, then the greater danger is not the word “yapping”. It is the growing intolerance for accountability.
Three days outside the Chamber will not silence me. I will continue to defend the Constitution and the Kenyan people. https://t.co/PkvYwrBgq5
@SuellaBraverman The former British home secretary and buddhist daughter of a Kenyan descendant of Goan Catholics, and a Mauritian Hindu descendent of Tamil, born in Harrow, studied in New York, married to a Jewish South African who lived In Israel says multiculturalism has failed.
Countries will beg immigrants every day of the week, and twice on Sundays, to come to their rescue whenever they’re battling labor shortages.
The moment those shortages are filled, they go “For decades, our immigration system has been exploited. We’re tightening our immigration to secure jobs for our citizens. #CitizensFirst”🤦🏽♂️
The reason Ruto keeps asking for Sifuna's agenda is because the concept of constitutionalism and rule of law is so foreign to him, anashindwa hizo ni matakataka gani mnaita agenda.
Leo nmepatana na this teacher that beat me for writing an Insha titled 'Nahodha wa ngotha ' . Basically it was based on a children's novel called captain underpants
This Judicial Officer said she doesn't even want to work there. This is how they arrogantly make decisions under the guise if judicial independence and "you can appeal".
