@gdechichi I’d be curious to hear about your general implementation style - is this all C or C like features? Std lib usage? Custom math? Custom Containers? Judging by the feature set I’m picturing a Unity like prefab system (essentially scenes?)
@OlexGameDev@valigo Haha that’ll get you pretty far. For a growing list did you find yourself using heap allocation with some kind of upfront reservation, or are you allocating from an arena or other custom allocator?
@OlexGameDev@valigo Yep familiar with EASTL - was just wondering if I was missing something good. I’ve been writing my own containers for the same reason (allocations), but sometimes I feel like I could be doing something better.
@ocornut Exactly how I’ve felt, my wife had an Air with a million hours of battery life and I was jealous. Meanwhile Windows just keeps getting worse.
Good luck on the switch!
@erin_catto@cmuratori Sort-of, for example my entities support general scaling within the editor, so the user could arbitrarily scale whatever they want mostly, but the actual “apply” of the scale can be pretty delayed (I.e. I don’t really plan to support real-time scale changes during simulation)
@erin_catto@cmuratori Thanks! I didn’t see scale options on the data types or surface level APIs - is there a pattern or particular part of the docs recommend for that?
@quaternius@scottpetrovic@var_cat_bones Yep agree, but then you lose access to a separate sprint animation (a common use-case). I suppose you could just use varied speeds of the sprint animation for a more serious look, but what I’ve seen folks doing is using most of this pack combined with the run forward from Mixamo
@MrDrElliot Ah is the typedef with the template arg just a fake for ergonomics then? I.e THandle<FTexture> isn’t really practically used?
If you’re allocated a generation is that somehow tracked internally in the rhi? You mentioned no state tracking though
@sean_gause The part that usually gets me is that some operations in blender run in the background but there’s very little indication that’s happening. So sometimes I do a thing, quickly export, doesn’t work - but really I just exported before it was done background-doing-the-thing
