When devising Keep Your Chin Up from her mother's wartime letters Polly Pattison said ' This is a tribute to my mother, your mother, grandmother, great grandmother. This was their life.'

During a preview of Keep Your Chin Up there was an audible gasp from some of the audience when a photo of Arthur Hearson in uniform circa 1943/44 (one Ethel's brothers) was shown . Two of his sons now in their 70s) were in the audience and they'd never seen that photo.
