If I'm Coastal and Schnall does leave, I'd try and snatch up Todd Interdonato at BC. The conference affiliation is obviously the big hang up but Coastal's job is superior in every other respect. Coached in SC (Wofford) for close to 20 years.
Since College baseball is finally growing and getting the attention it has always deserved. Time to change some things with the tournament.
• the host team should never be the away team ( especially game 7)
• telling host venues to be as neutral as possible defeats the whole purpose of earning a national seed.
• tougher to do but reseed the 16 after super regionals (will never happen)
Congrats to Troy. Unbelievably impressive to battle their way to an at-large after struggling early then out of the losers bracket over Miami and a top 8 Florida 2x on their home field. Hope they get to Omaha and it lights a fire under our ass and everyone else in the league.
Really impressed by Kansas this weekend. First time hosting, drew one of the best programs in the country that many thought should have hosted, and cruised through the regional without a ton of issues.
We aren't shitting on it but the 40 wins streak has become what the winning season streak for football was in the 2000s. It's used as a crutch to deflect from the program's shortcomings in taking the next step.
I wish fans would stop shitting on the 40-win season record.
It matters that we are that good. It matters that, in this NIL and transfer portal era, we continue to be this good.
Yes it sucks to lose regional games.
But w/out the 40 wins, we don't make a lot of Regionals.
They're either going to keep being hubristic and complacent and do the "aw shucks we won 40 again vs. middling teams" and not change a thing or they're going to take a long, hard look at how this program is run and get cutthroat about what it's going to take to get to Omaha.
The top teams and conferences have separated some in the portal era in baseball as well but the variance associated with the sport means you will still see some upsets and lower seeds make runs.
Especially in an era where the top 40 teams in college basketball are superteams with runaway efficiency metrics and upsets are rare as ever (and will become more so with the move to 76 teams). Baseball is easily the superior event.
Your annual reminder that the NCAA baseball tournament is (maybe a lot) better than the NCAA basketball tournament -- 16 on-campus regionals makes for one of the best sports weekends of the year.
I'm so mad at USM that I was shaking earlier but today has been a reminder that college baseball and the NFL are the only good team sports left in the U.S.
