• Ask a priest for guidance if the burden feels heavy.

Remember: God is greater than any darkness. He does not abandon those who call upon Him. The same Lord who calmed the storm and cast out demons still walks with us today.
You are not alone. Bring your burdens to the foot of the Cross and trust in His mercy.

Date Masamune, the 'One-Eyed Dragon,' wanted to open trade with Europe and secure Catholic missionaries.

He chose Hasekura Tsunenaga to lead an embassy across the Pacific to Mexico, then on to Spain and Rome.

The journey itself was a feat of endurance, taking years. When Hasekura finally reached the Vatican, he performed the necessary rituals to win favor.

He was baptized, taking the name Philip Francis. Then came the ultimate cultural crossover: the Knights Hospitaller, an ancient European crusading order, inducted the armored samurai as one of their own.

Hasekura returned to Japan in 1620, full of hope. But the political winds had shifted drastically during his seven-year absence.

The Shogunate was now ruthlessly suppressing Christianity and sealing the country off from foreign influence.

Everything Hasekura had worked for was suddenly forbidden. His epic mission was ultimately forgotten in Japan for centuries.

The SSPX have not questioned the validity of Pope Leo’s election, and at least in public their bishops are not claiming that any alleged errors disqualify him from acting as Pope. They of course will have to return to acceptance of the validity of Vatican II.
