A new database table isn't going to fix the performance or UX or RTC. The only solution is WebSockets. Unfortunately WS is far outside the traditional WP stack. Fortunately there is a way, its called https://t.co/sPHae8S5FT a performant Rust based WebSocket relay capable of delivering sub 50ms events.
A new database table & transients aren't going to be enough to fix the performance and UX. The only thing that would make RTC usable are WebSockets. Luckily there is a way without changing your host or infrastructure. Its called @wpsignal a high performant Rust based WebSocket relay.
@jeffr0 Performance and UX are severely impacted by HTTP polling transport layer. The only real solution is to use WebSockets. Luckily this can be solved without changing your infrastructure by using a WebSocket relay. https://t.co/wg1PAuWdkx is a real solution to this problem.
@SethRubenstein@learnwithmattc@therepositorywp The performance cost of RTC is routed in the transport layer, this uses polling to keep collaborators in sync.
Essentially hammering the server for updates every second (resulting in empty responses 80% of the time). @wpsignal is a real solution to this problem.
𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁 just got approved on https://t.co/cOqyfgHFvf.
You might know us as 𝗪𝗣𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗮𝗹, but https://t.co/cOqyfgHFvf has a rule against plugins starting with "wp", which is understandable. So WordSocket was born, and honestly it has a nice ring to it.
After months of building, testing, and a few too many late nights, true realtime for WordPress is now one plugin install away.
𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁 brings WebSocket support 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀. No separate server, no complex infrastructure. Site owners can push live updates, events, and notifications to connected users the moment they happen, not after the next poll cycle. 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗬𝗷𝘀 𝘀𝘆𝗻𝗰 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿, 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘃𝟳 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗮 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝘅.
If you've ever wanted realtime on WordPress without rebuilding your stack, this is it.
