Making last edits on a novel that begins w the WTC bombings. I was living in NYC. I left for West Coast shortly after & the book tells the story. The Syracuse Sessions was an album I recorded in upstate NY before leaving the East Coast for Oregon. #singersongwriter#guitar#music

So, my message is to young musicians today: be careful where u seek affirmation for new vision. It belongs to YOU—& your era.
& hey, if it happens to offend older generations, take it as a good sign.

So—I’ve written at least 100 songs. Signed or not, I’m a very prolific songwriter. All in the service of whittling away toward whatever my talent might be!
Anyway this is a short story:

I listen back to it—on cassette—recorded on 4 tracks. & I think “Damn. This is a good song.” Even just the skeleton. I know there were, certainly in the 90s, producers who would jump to hear it. I say this at 52. I’m not naïve. But nor do I have the doubt I did then.
My next album will be composed entirely of nonsense snatches of words and melody that come into to my mind and usually naturally fade away, except I’m capturing them all this time. It will add nothing to the world but absurdity & groove.
