When you intro yourself to me as a #freelancer, I want more than clips. Where'd you grow up? Go to college? Hobbies? Do you have pets?
Every writer has their preferred topics & areas of expertise, but life experience dictates so many more opportunities.
#journorequest I'm looking for female solo travel stories please. Have you had a life changing experience that prompted you to be brave and take the leap? For a case study piece on why more women are choosing to go without partners/friends/kids thanks!

📩 Send story ideas and tips to [email protected]
Genuinely curious...as an editor, should I let freelancers know that I would rather not work with them again after going through several disappointing rounds of edits or just slowly stop responding to pitches? Both seem trash so open to other suggestions as well.
@amandacastleman@BlaneBachelor@shedreamstravel More details here and the site also contains info on the needs-based tuition assistance! Please note, the scholarship deadline is midnight on 1/10 for this session. But the school also has upcoming classes on interviewing, food writing & travel writing.

Lately I've been having convos w/ editors EXPLAINING why rates need to be higher.
Explaining inflation & that $30/ hour is less than min wage in the US when you account for high self employment taxes, insurance & expenses.
Explaining that good work requires livable compensation.
We're looking for untold stories and things that inspire. I really love when writers take a different angle on an iconic destination. — @star_lightw, editor at @NatGeoTravel on the @The_IIJ panel
#Pitching advice: @NatGeoTravel we love cultural travel stories. But don't go for two weeks and present yourself as a local expert: that's an automatic no! Own what you know and don't try to claim something that you don't have! — editor @star_lightw on @The_IIJ panel

Tip on #pitching#travel to @washingtonpost: We prefer writers who live in a place or have a strong local connection to it, like spending every summer there as a child. Show more than just "I went on vacation and feel like writing about it." — editor @amandajfinnegan at @The_IIJ
