Fighting to bridge the literacy gap for Bristol youth. Supporting families with home learning. Follow us as we build our non-profit literacy mentoring platform.
Two years ago we were all panicking about children missing school, and the impact on their well-being of being stuck inside 24/7. Have the lessons learned in lockdown gone out the window so soon, @BristolCouncil@MarvinJRees ?
It's the 2nd day of the wk Selma’s child is missing school. If they leave the hotel rm, it will be locked & they''ll be on d street.Head of @BristolCouncil Housing is doing this 2 a traumatised mum & autistic child under the watch (or authorisation) of @MarvinJRees & @TomRenhard
@BristolCouncil and @MarvinJRees please act now and fund their interim accommodation. This young pupil needs to get back to school and back into routine. Him missing out on vital learning will eventually cost far more than any hotel bill @TravelodgeUK.
I think everyone is getting ready for school run & going on with their day except Selma & her son who is in prison in their hotel @TravelodgeUK. She can't take her son to school bcuse if she leaves she'll be locked out @TomRenhard@MarvinJRees@DonaldGraham78@BristolCouncil
For any organisations thinking of running similar programmes, we would love to share everything we have learnt. Reach us by email at [email protected].
After a fantastic year and a half, we’re bringing our literacy mentoring programme to an end. A gigantic thank you to the 148 people involved, who made this possible without a single penny of funding. We wish all our learners a very happy start to the new school year! 👋🙏
Our today's coffee morning session was about education. Most of participants were mums with school age & A-levels children. They discussed about the challenges around education system & what they see as possible solutions.Having a mentor, career advice on early on were suggested.
Some really important lessons in our desire to address inequalities. Listen, understand and acknowledge. Communities must lead the approach to address mistrust. #whosshoes@CaafiHealth@NHSSW@Jingstar

Generosity has nothing to do how much money you have. We can help our communities in many ways & make positive contributions. I.e. volunteering your time, going extra miles at your work, mentoring young people or listening someone in distressful situation all make +ve difference.

"Missing out on sport, school trips and other character-building activities has hit disadvantaged pupils’ confidence". Schools and local authorities owe a great debt of gratitude to groups filling those gaps, like @samirabhac, @Talocommunity & @UniqueVoice_CIC#summerofplay
Three cheers to the Barton Hill Activity Club @samirabhac for the amazing summer programme they are running for local children 🥳This is the kind of catch-up that school pupils really need this summer! #SummerOfPlay@playfirstuk@summerofplay
Higher grades are something to celebrate, but they mask serious learning losses brought about by the pandemic, as well as a growing inequality that we need to fight. https://t.co/WhSnno0hoe #equityineducation#gcseresults2021#alevelresults2021
