💊 Plain language has real-world impact. People giving consent for clinical trials don’t always understand what they’re signing up for. https://t.co/QFGOkkk4jV
😦 Before you try to tell the reader anything, talk about what they might be feeling now. This shows that you understand them, and that you’re not going to just talk over their feelings.
🚰 With ‘kitchen sink syndrome’, you add so much content that your project collapses under the weight. If you overload your writing, the reader will just switch off or stop reading.
🖼 The great advantages of the step-by-step structure are transparency and modularity. The reader can see all the steps before they start reading, and they always know where they are in the sequence.
🙋♂️ if you’re working with an expert, don’t be afraid to ask them really basic questions. Don’t worry about looking stupid, or admitting you don’t understand.
How to treat the reader with respect:
✅ Think of them as a real, living person
✅ Remember they can choose whether to read on
✅ Don’t assume they will act in ways that you never would.
