I’m here to report that the hype is real
Parenthood is a peak life experience once the kids are all 4+
The first few years are tough and real work. But it does pay off handsomely later. For almost all parents I know
Me: 𝑆𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒𝑠, just sometimes, I think the church fathers are guilty of over-allegorising.
Also me: “𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗧𝗛𝗘 ‘𝗪𝗜𝗦𝗘𝗠𝗔𝗡’, 𝗔 𝗣𝗔𝗚𝗔𝗡, 𝗙𝗢𝗟𝗟𝗢𝗪𝗘𝗗 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗦𝗠𝗢𝗦 𝗧𝗢 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗙𝗘𝗘𝗧 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗠𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗔𝗛 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗛𝗘 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗗!”
This is another example of digital media (memory) eating electric (fantasy). I remember when "everyone" knew the new music coming out through TV, college radio, etc.; but as the archival Internet became dominant, we find media asynchronously. So why not just listen to old stuff?
I've written about this before, but it's remarkable how much older music is strangling new music.
And the same is true in books, movies, video games. Older media is taking up a bigger and bigger share of the market every year.
Kind of crazy the Int'l Olympic Committee can now say stuff like "biological sex does not and cannot change" or "the strength and power differential between Males and Females increases safety risks to Female athletes." Probably would've been shadowbanned if you said that in 2021!
There's a bit in Animal Control where one character says, "I think you're overthinking it," and another says, "That's what regular thinking looks like to an underthinker." Same spirit, and I completely agree.
My entire worldview is that Calvin's dad is not only correct about the definition of "control freak" but that people like Calvin's dad are the key to every good thing that we collectively enjoy

The cold open of the Pluribus finale was truly sinister. The minute Kusimayu joins the Others, the entire human culture in which she was raised and which the Others sustained her in, was immediately and emotionlessly folded, like a tv set being shut down as production ends.
The Christmas Truce of 1914 was a beautiful picture of humanity; but a picture painted with the palette of Christianity. On The Site That Shall Not Be Named, we look at how the logic of the Incarnation makes the truce possible.

As a parent of 4 kids, can affirm what I heard: with 2 or 3 kids, you can persuade yourself that you can "do all the things" (lots of activities, individualized time). With 4, the illusion breaks: you do more "group parenting" (big games) and less 1:1. And it's awesome!
Research shows that the more kids a couple has, the less stressed they become. Couples with 4 kids are way less stressed couples with fewer kids. Why is that?
