One of the great poets of grief has gone on to glory. But while she was here, she gave us words to wait out the in between.
The Uses of Sorrow
Someone I loved once gave me
a box full of darkness
It took me years to understand
that this, too, was a gift.
- Mary Oliver
In case you need this reminder today: Sometimes all it takes is asking for help or saying that you’re struggling, and people will be there. Even strangers. And especially @SouthwestAir workers. Thank you, Southwest!
To the dude next to me on the bus (because the A is f***ed today) who just quietly showed me this while I was with my kid, so that he was none the wiser, thank you
The struggles you face are not the truest thing about you.
The trauma you’ve lived is not the truest thing about you.
The work still to be done in your life is not the truest thing about you.
Your identity as deeply, and fully loved, is the truest thing about you. #beloved
Jesus knew what it was like to sit in a tomb with no light.
So many friends have expressed their own struggles with depression.
I know what it feels like when depression descends and overtakes.
Right now, it's important to check in with people.
@WildGooseFest Be prepared for rain (it always rains). Bring bug spray. Eat “the veggie thing” for as many meals as possible. The portapotties are surprisingly clean, so (if you’re like me) worry less about that.
@jdanatrent@WildGooseFest Look at our amazing team! So proud of our work together last year and excited for what we will accomplish this year. Here’s to more tattoos!!!
"What if 'rich' did not have to mean 'wealthy', and 'whole' did not have to mean 'healed'? What if being the people of "the gospel" meant that we are simply people with good news? God is here. We are loved. It is enough.”

My recap of #FFWgr2018 and tips for fellow festival goers! "Doing this festival exactly like 2016 would've been enough[...] Thank God nothing ever happens the same way twice." https://t.co/x9vPZR5aLj
Honored to have been part of the Festival of Faith & Writing in Grand Rapids. Our authors @jdanatrent and @whitrsimpson shone in their #meditation classes. New author @hannahdelight was there to see her book for the 1st time. We acquired it @ the 2016 festival. #ffwgr@URBooks
#FFWgr2018 has me breathless, but I just heard from @WildGooseFest and I’ll be leading a session there! We will be claiming our stories, bodies, selves with a Love Feast and temporary tattoos and I just. cannot. wait. Let me know if you’ll be there!
