I’ve seen someone move from a Vice President title in a relatively small organization into a mid-management role at an MNC.

A VP title in a 30-person company and a Manager title in a multinational with thousands of employees, complex structures, multiple markets and significantly larger budgets cannot be compared.

When you have a job offer, look out for 4 things:

1. Organizational size/structure
2. Scope of responsibility
3. Compensation
4. Career capital

Don’t be afraid to accept a “title cut” if the opportunity gives you significantly better exposure, learning, compensation, brand value or career capital. Sometimes you need to go sideways or even “backwards” on paper to move forward in reality.
