XLOV’s WUMUTI on the group’s genderless concept:
❤️: “What I’d like to emphasize is: it’s not that you have to wear what society calls the ‘opposite’ of the gender you were assigned at birth, to be genderless.
It’s when you feel what fits the situation now, what you want to do—that’s what we call the concept of ‘gender-free’.
‘Because you were born male, because your ID says “male”, you must wear a suit and a tie’… we want to remove that idea. If I want to wear a tie, I will. If I want to wear a dress, I’ll go in a dress. We’ll be just as formal, but how we present it, I decide. That’s the message we want to keep sharing.
Does art itself have a gender? I’ve thought about that a lot.
So I believe that in this life, XLOV will be our final challenge as artists, and in this life, we intend to carry the title of XLOV to the very end.
As a group, we really want to deliver a clear message, and rather than looking for it elsewhere, we want to feel it deep inside, speak honestly about the frustrations we’ve felt, and thought that would be best. That’s how this started.”
