December 28, 1537: French King Francis I issued a decree requiring booksellers and printers to deposit a copy of every work in the King's Library.

This established the world's first legal depository.

Mary Queen of Scots was married to Dauphin Francis, the heir to the French throne, at Notre-Dame on 24 April 1558. This medal was issued to celebrate the occasion. It depicts the royal couple beneath a single crown.
