@ConceptualJames The next round will be far harder to square with protecting existing power and interests. Genuinely curious to see if it elicits the sort of immune reaction that was sorely lacking last time.
@ConceptualJames What will be interesting to see is how the technocratic centre reacts this time. Woke 1.0 was relatively easy (albeit corrosive) to absorb into corpspeak with platitudes and paying relatively insignificant tithes to the high priest class (jobs, expensive consulting/training etc)
@twosnips Low level antisocial behaviour like this is precisely what chips away at the high trust society you seem to agree is worth preserving. Your solution to it just ensures the goal you want moves further away, not closer.
@Adroit_Cadet I agree with this in theory & was willing to buy in pre-WC, but the aspect of these first games that shakes confidence is that we've been physically so off it, regularly losing duels and getting run over. For this to work we need to rely on the physicality of tired players.
@FPL_Zlatan@AdamCrafton_ No people dislike the English b/c they're actually privy to the conversations had between the English during a world cup. I'm in France and I assure you the same conversations happen here every single tournament, you just don't have access to them. Same for every big nation.
@Neil_Bloch@john_l33@StanCollymore Respectfully disagree. Football is such a marvellous sport in part because it is so organic and fluid. The game ebbs, flows, erupts, then ebbs again with minimal disruption. A team's ability to maintain that over a full half without a break is a huge part of the sport we like.
@henrywinter This is broadly fair, but there have been moments when he has seemingly strayed a bit into egoistic antics in recent years and it's not wrong that many including Tuchel were a tad concerned if that had continued to develop. Eg the Hey Jude campaign at the start of the last Euros
@CaribbeanRythms An old friend invited a bunch of us to a birthday meal years ago. His family were also there. Upon arriving he spent a few minutes whispering warnings about how awful his dad was, a bit racist, sexist, unenlightened etc. His dad was fine, never saw him the same way again though.
@AaronBastani Your issue is less the hold out sceptics than those of us now very wary and weary of the activist class on this topic. Push for nuclear power and investment in development of renewables so they're fit for purpose. Drop all talk of degrowth, climate justice, and neoluddism.
@milehighsalute8@adamsummerton It'd be fine.

@PiersUncensored@ericweinstein@piersmorgan He's describing an imperial governance approach and ethos inside of Britain. We already have this, and it's a disaster. I respect Weinstein broadly, but on this topic he's in over his head.
@JamesMelville Traditional quintessential British (& Irish) emotional struggleball. Nothing like one of the 5 nations' supporters rocking up with summer dreams of grandeur, perfect pink tans, a permahaze of steady day drinking, knowingly ironic songs of glory, only to crash out with limp play
@j_amesmarriott Empires at their zenith will oft look to their forebears to better understand their own condition. Rome was a fixation of the 19C British elite, as for the Yanks in the 20th. We are now providing a realtime example of the dangers of an adrift complacent ideologically myopic elite

This is from one of the more informed voices on this topic.
Probably not 250k, but likely high 10s of thousands, quite possibly over 100k.
I'm not sure I'd say this is quite BLM levels of egregious fabrication, albeit I do wish they'd be more careful.
Iβve said elsewhere that the minimum is 20-30k, beyond that itβs hard to say with any certainty. 250 is possible but unlikely. I think itβs high tens of thousands, perhaps over a hundred thousand depending on what we eventually find in Bradford/Birmingham but this is pure guesswork with some uncertain assumptions
@thomaschattwill The french love a moan, but to be fair it is miserably clammy here at the moment. It's not just that it's 34/35 (37-39 next week), it's that it's relentless. By the time it cools off it'll have been 10 days and this place is a bloody heat sink...
@Benleo My wife and I are currently on the waiting list to adopt. The sheer unfettered disgust at what these two did here is hard to express. That poor child deserved so much better.
@aeronlaffere 20-25 years ago too. Also a comprehensive. Inner London.
Exactly the same experience and observations.
Exactly the same exasperated bewildered anger that this has become the wider national cultural zeitgeist now.
