Newly published: A landmark book on Indian mathematics
I am honoured to be one of the first recipients of this new book by Prof. K. Ramasubramanian of IIT Bombay. “The Elusive Ratio and the Advent of Calculus in India” is the result of meticulous multidisciplinary research in mathematics and Sanskrit.
Prof. Ramasubramanian is a renowned scholar of both Sanskrit and mathematics (he holds a doctorate in Theoretical Physics, a master’s degree in Sanskrit, and a bachelor’s degree in engineering). He has authored three books on Indian mathematical treatises—“Gaṇita-Yukti-Bhāṣā”, “Tantrasaṅgraha”, and “Karaṇapaddhati” (all published by Hindustan Book Agency and later by Springer Verlag).
In his latest book, running to around 450 pages, Prof. Ramasubramanian documents and explains the development of approximations of and expressions for pi (π, “the elusive ratio”) given by Indian mathematicians over hundreds of years. It starts with Vedic ritual geometry and the Śulbasūtras, covers the seminal contributions of Āryabhaṭa and Brahmagupta, and culminates in the infinite power series for π given by Mādhava of Saṅgamagrāma. The book thus traces the lineage of mathematical ideas that predated some aspects of modern calculus, developed in Europe, by three hundred years. The book offers an accurate account of the history of mathematical ideas in India: there is no hyperbole, no tall claim, and no sweeping history in the book. It situates the Sanskrit works in their historical and intellectual context, presents the Sanskrit verses and text, and explains their meanings with detailed diagrams, tables, and notes.
The book is a must-read for students and scholars of the history of mathematics and Indian Knowledge Systems. I congratulate Prof. Ramasubramanian and the publisher, Garuda Prakashan, for bringing out this landmark book. I also thank Prof. Ramasubramanian for sending me a complimentary copy.

@RajivMessage@TVMohandasPai Indeed the "self limiting frameworks" in policy and strategic thinking are a trap for perpetual slavery and weakness. Hopefully your constant reminders are reaching the right places and people.
For years, major institutions have framed India and Hindus through the lens of nationalism, extremism, and suspicion. But what we've uncovered on @Wikipedia raises a deeper question: who gets to write the public record?
Our investigation found that a small cluster of anonymous editors controlled more than 80% of the @HinduAmerican page. Among the findings:
Blatant Conflict of Interest: The editors aggressively shaping HAF’s page were the exact same people controlling the Wikipedia profiles of HAF's legal adversaries and academic critics.
Inserting False FARA Allegations: Editors laundered complaints from HAF's opponents into "facts," using demands for a DOJ investigation to falsely brand HAF as a foreign agent
Administrative Silencing: An admin with supreme platform permissions deleted quotes from HAF's leadership, stripping the organization of its right to reply to allegations.
Over four years (2021-2025), editors systematically erased HAF’s identity as an American civil rights group, transforming its Wikipedia page into a heavily curated dossier of accusations. Our report from @npovmedia documents how it happened. 👇
India has sent 96 people to America who started billion dollar companies. No one else is even close.
There's only about 5 million Indians in America. Almost one in 50,000 of them is a unicorn founder!
What a holy, special, beautiful people.
I will always fight for them.
Session 2 of the Banyan Tree Network Conference was dedicated to commemorating 30 years of Infinity Foundation and reflecting on its founding and ongoing mission.
At this event, I shared an early look at my upcoming book on the 108 Frameworks and spoke about my School of Thought, a project that has taken shape over more than two decades, marking the next phase of this long-form intellectual work.
The session opened with a warm welcome from Shri Hari Kiran Vadlamani, Head of the Banyan Tree Network and Founder of INDICA and NICE. I then delivered a reflective address on the journey and vision behind the work. The program continued with impactful messages from Padma Vibhushan Dr. Sonal Mansingh, cultural icon and former Member of Parliament; Shri C. S. Mukunda Rao, Joint General Secretary of the RSS; and Prof. Shrinivasa Varakhedi, Vice Chancellor of the Central Sanskrit University. The session concluded with a tribute led by Shri Hari Kiran Vadlamani, highlighting the Banyan Tree Network as a platform that brings together Hindu and Indian cultural organizations worldwide.
@LucyJayneWhite1 Lucy! Use it as a motivation to learn more languages! That would be a good thing! Dropping a "Deport Them" at the slightest inconvenience is indeed racist.
Truly tragic. India must make it easier for the Hindus and other minorities facing atrocities in Pakistan to come to India for refuge. But despite a govt that we would think...should look compassionately on their plights and favorably consider their pleas... the bureaucrats/bureaucracy seem to be falling short.
Heartbreaking
Two Hindu residents of Pakistan - Ravi Kumar and wife Shanti Bai - had waited 1.5 years for a tourist visa to Bharat but didn’t get. So they decided to cross the That desert on foot to enter Bharat
They managed to enter from Jaisalmer but after walking around 10 km, they died of thirst and heat
Their bodies, along with identity documents, were discovered by a shepherd in a sand dune in Sadhewala area. Their extended family in Ramgarh, Jaisalmer, performed the last rites
The silent struggle of many Pakistani Hindus - they survive there with the sole dream of eventually reaching Bharat
Is the republican mainstream increasingly getting more racist? earlier it was just the fringe... not it seems that the rot has spread. This is not good for America!
