It would be fascinating to know where this rumor among non-mathematicians got started about the greatest living mathematician.

Jean Pierre Serre is still alive. As is Edward Witten. And Simon Donaldson. As well as Peter Scholze. And Jacob Lurie. Not to mention Graeme Segal. Or Nigel Hitchin. Or Pierre Deligne. To say nothing of Dan Freed. Or Michael Hopkins. Or Maxim Konsevitch. Or ST Yau and Mikhail Gromov. Or Drinfeld and Beilinson. Or….

I think Terry Tao is amazing.

I cannot shake the feeling that the New York Times and some people at Princeton came up with a meme that Tao won the prize as the greatest living mathematician. Which simply never happened.

The fact is 1 of the guy's who had the potential to beat him, and likely would've, is now out of the game b/c Gane poked his eyes out rather than beat him outright in an actual fight

While everyone soyjacks over Navier-Stokes finite time blow up (silly problem imo but to each his own) it is important to remember that AI will not stop at combinatorics, number theory and PDEs (weirdly dominant overlap with Terry Tao's skill set). 1/3

@UsingLyft People immediately choose gay son over hoe daughter, but it's never been that easy of a choice to me. If it's this vs hoe daughter, give me hoe daughter. If my gay son is very masculine presenting and not an overt faggot, I'll go with gay son
