We need real answers, not easy ones. Our plan to end the housing crisis in California just launched — and the people who know, know: it’s the real deal. Read it: https://t.co/bbYt2XpgnD
I’ve been on both sides of the H1B
Visa. For context, I graduated with a Masters degree from Carnegie Mellon, interned at Nvidia, worked at Apple, then at Uber & eventually started my own company.
Every year the US grants 85,000 H1Bs. For context, approx 2.1M ppl immigrate legally and nearly 3M migrants entered illegally.
So this visa is a drop in your “takes my jobs” bucket
Brilliant comment from @NYTimes reader.
“The very best thing that the Democrats can do for themselves is not ideological. It is to make the deep Blue cities and states where they have a supermajority into American paradises. Los Angeles, New York, California, Baltimore, Chicago, etc. Show us that you can got her an effectively. Low crime, great schools, moderate taxes, excellent mass transit, etc. Then the rest of the country will come to believe that your way is the right way. Because it is not what we have seen.”
Going from SF early stage startups to Meta has been another culture shock. This is one of the most functional places I’ve worked, with the East coast culture of my high school & college years.
Operations are clean. Dads go blueberry picking with their kids on weekends. No shadow networks of psychedelics and sex to be found.
Ok. There has been a fight about politics happening in private in the Democratic party for at least two years. It's now leaking out into the public.
And it says something about Biden -- and about lessons Harris should learn from his admin. THREAD: 1/
Journalist Evan Gershkovich lifts his mother, Ella Milman, as US President Joe Biden looks on, on the tarmac after arriving home at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, on Thursday.
ok, I've now read the full NYT complaint filed this morning vs OpenAI and Microsoft. I'm impressed - it's future-focused around fair value for work vital to democracy. It also contains 220k pages of exhibits although the pages of Ex J stood out to me. more on that in a minute. /1
Once you’re in middle school you can read John Grisham, Michael Crichton, things of that nature then Dune and before you know it you’re reading “teen” literature like Siddhartha and Stranger in a Strange Land and it’s off to the races
It is so weird to be an American Jew.
Most of us are “white,” but whiteness is provisional/geographic — in more Republican/white supremacist areas, we’re less white & subject to racist terror attacks.
Most of us are liberal/progressives who despise Bibi & Likudniks but also …
Sharon Lai wants to be SF supervisor and is the corrupt political machine’s next endorsement.
Who came to support her? The worst people who sell out the Asian American community, make our streets unsafe for our elders and remove Algebra.
Connie Chan. Janice Li. Fewer. Kim.
Sharon Lai is toxic and will accelerate the doom loop in SF. Remember this name and tell your friends.
Gallego is the perfect example of a candidate showing that you can be unabashedly progressive and not pay any electoral penalty. Fantastic message discipline and authenticity, and he’s overperformed across a host of environments.
Vitally important thread. It sometimes appears to me that national lawmakers are so isolated from what’s happening on the ground they don’t really understand what they are creating. What this thread lays out is why historians’ hair is on fire.
My two cents on the upcoming CCP’s 20th party congress as a historical sociologist of Chinese Communism. To have a good sense of it, it’s essential to look from inside out, especially from inside of the party’s history. 1/11
