AN OPEN LETTER PLEA TO HELP UNIS SECURE THE DAESANG - 2024 MAMA AWARDS

If this tweet reached you, then you probably "know" UNIS by now - who's this NUGU Girl Group nominated for MAMA? The group with the 13-year-old?

UNIS is a very promising 8-member gg formed through a survival show with a 2yr & 6mos contract - too short, right? Well, that's why this award holds very high significance to the group, especially for their future.

But before I discuss this further, let me address the main issue that the KPOP community has with UNIS— their age.

Yes, they're mostly minors, with 13 being the maknae - and I understand the concerns saying that they shouldn't debut at a young age. I saw a lot of comments saying they'd like to stan UNIS but hold-off because of their age.

BUT let me tell you this, they fought hard to debut, their parents consented to them joining UT. They were already subjected to criticisms in the show and these 8 members powered through and grew amidst the challenges. Their talents are what enabled them to be an IDOL, stand on stage, and inspire others.

This second point is what I'm very proud of the EverAfter fandom. Yes, the KPOP industry is harsh, especially with the sexualizing and AI stuff around. But I, at the very least could tell you that they are very much protected within and by the fandom - Thankfully I have not yet seen any harmful posts about them except for the aforemetioned age issue.

Adding to this is that most UNIS stans here are using their real account to cheer for the group(myself being a case in point). I believe this is a rare thing in kpop stan twt because it's easy to hide anonymously to lust and talk shit about other idols - because there's no accountability if you're anon. Yet here we are - exposed with the risks of getting doxxed or personally flamed just to support UNIS. This shows that the EverAfter fandom strays away from your typical kpop fandom stereotype.

A simple scroll/stalk on our profiles show our form of love towards UNIS - not as potential delulu partners but as daughters or siblings. Like you, these idols have saved us from our lowest of lows, our darkest days, and have inspired us to become better people - they've given this much positivity regardless of their age. I'm looking forward to their positive impact in the coming years - so please let's make it longer than 2yrs6mos

Let's not throw away their potential just because they're young, instead, let's enable and provide them a platform to showcase their talents in a safe environment that would serve as the foundation for future generations - A more healthy kpop industry - and this is where your vote counts.

They are from a small company in the industry and gaining awards like this increases the likelihood of their contract getting renewed. It's why our fandom has been known for getting vote-heavy rewards - to see them for much longer.

And so I'm appealing to the kpop Twitterverse to lend a small hand by voting for UNIS to secure the 2024 VISA FANS' CHOICE OF THE YEAR AWARD.

I want to extend my plea further to the fans of the groups that I'm also a fan of:

To DIVEs(IVE) - Like IVE, UNIS also has a lot of child fans. They serve as an inspiration for the younger generation to pursue their dreams. Seowon, is a fan of IVE and is the main reason why I watched UT - she covered IVE songs prior to joining and I was excited to see how she a contestant heavily inspired by IVE would showcase her skills. You also know the pain of the pickme/IT-girl hate train but you guys fought and Wonyoung proved them wrong overtime - it's happening with Gehlee too - can we at least help tone down the haters by voting and securing the award to prove them wrong?

ps: my IVE bias is Gaeul and UNIS bias is Yunha. Some dive/everafter say that Yunha looks like Liz. If you're a Garibiz enjoyer, maybe you'd also stan Yunha as she has Gaeul's sincereness towards her fans and Liz's goofy personality. (Yes, Liz is my biaswrecker hehe)

To FEARNOTS(Le Sserafim) - I don't know where to start. Being a FEARNOT is hard and it pains my heart every time to see hate comments beyond what should be just criticism. We know it's unnecessary, we know it's not true. We know they've improved a lot yet the hate hasn't subsided. UNIS is experiencing the same but for a much more trivial reason - their age. It also pains me to see people invalidating their efforts and talent just because of their age when in fact it should be more amazing because of their potential. Can I request your help so that they're not subjected to the same unnecessary hate that our fimmies endured? I know this is what Yunjin meant by changing the industry - they went through suffering so that others wouldn't experience the same pain as they did.

To MYs/Blinks(Aespa/Blackpink) - Most of the multi-stans I know are Blinks and MYs and I can see why they are drawn to UNIS with the similarities. Maybe you could spare the effort to look at them more?

To ONCEs(TWICE) - I became a kpop fan because of Twice, stayed because of ivessera, and became more vocal/active because of UNIS. Needless to say, Twice has been a heavy inspiration for UNIS, they have the same backstory and a similar member composition. Can we sprinkle a small amount of support towards an identical, 5th gen group? We are currently competing for the same award, OT9 surely deserves it too but in the case where Twice loses its chances to win, maybe you could support a "similar" group instead?

To Wiz*Ones(Iz*One) - I'm really sorry for bringing this up but please help a fandom out. Don't let this girlgroup disband abruptly. 2 years is too short. Don't let them experience the same heartbreak. If you became a fan of Izone after disbandment and/or have any regrets about not fully supporting them during their active period - maybe you could channel your supposed support to UNIS instead?

To ReVeluvs(Red Velvet) - Your fandom, especially the PH has been a great inspiration for me on how to support the idols especially at concerts, and especially on how you compensate for the little support that the RV gets from their company. I'm not saying F&F provides minimal support to UNIS, but given their small size, it's almost up to us fans to provide. Can you spare the extra resources to help them out?

To the other GGs not mentioned - Sorry, I'm not as immersed and that hardcore of a kpop fan. But maybe you could check out UNIS, see what similarities they have with your GG and tell me? My DMs are open!

To the "Nugu" Groups - Maybe we could have an Avengers End Game moment and unite to help this small group achieve what is almost impossible in the industry?

To the boy groups - I'm sorry I have nothing to say, I am completely out of touch. But maybe you could support this small girl group which could also serve as a music palate cleanser from your BG playlists. And also vote since the male and female awards are separate - no conflict of interest!

I ask from the bottom of your heart to vote for UNIS. Let a small ounce of similarity of your stan GG/BG be a driving force to help us in our wish for UNIS to extend their contract(and ultimately gain permanency) by voting.
