"SOMETHING in me died, a piece of me died, with the dying of Sophiatown in the winter of 1958. It was Monday morning, the first working day away from work; exactly seven days before I had resigned my job as a journalist on Golden City Post, the Johannesburg weekly tabloid for the locations. I was a free man, but the salt of the bitterness was still in my mouth; the quarrel with Hank Margolies, the assistant editor, the whiteman-boss confrontation, the letter of resignation โ these things became interposed with the horror of the destruction of Sophiatown. I was a stranger walking the streets of blitzed Sophiatown, and although the Western Areas removal scheme had been a reality dating back some two years, I had not become fully conscious of it." - Bloke Modisane (1923 - 1986), Blame Me On History

Even if the boats never reach Gaza, their impact is undeniable. Hundreds of activists have been arrested after being forcibly taken by Israel in international waters but the Gaza Sunbird continues to sail, a symbol of resistance and solidarity.
If Andre de Ruyter had done half of what Dan Marokane has done in Eskom, he would be called Mr Fix-it. Instead Danโs efforts are overlooked attributing Eskom turnaround to private sector or a miracle. Bigotry continues to cloud judgement of some people. What a shame. #Eskom
