I think people are forgetting the basic definition here. Otome (乙女) is a genre centered on women—the 女 literally means women. Otome games are built around a female main character, with the story told from her perspective and focused on her relationships with male love interests.

Turning an otome game into one with a male MC or LI × LI dynamics goes against what 乙女 even is.

Otome games exist for women who want to experience a story as a female protagonist and build romantic relationships with male LIs. Changing it from Female MC × LI to LI × LI isn’t a small tweak—it fundamentally changes the genre.

People need to realize that PG marketed LADS as an otome game, so players came in expecting a Female MC × LI experience.
