So what actually happens when a token goes behind the Shield?

At the basic level, you take a compatible ERC-20 and shield it. The original tokens go into a wrapper and a confidential version comes out representing that value.

You’re not swapping into some unrelated token and you’re not moving onto another chain. The underlying tokens stay locked inside the wrapper while the confidential representation is what you use on the other side.

When you want out, you unshield and receive the underlying ERC-20 back.

That’s the basic idea.

Token in. Confidential representation out.

The interesting part is what happens once it’s behind the Shield.
