Nerdcore - what if we have some fun here and make this a real thing? It's an idea I've thought of in the past, but I wanted to see if people would be interested:

A team of 2 (producer + artist) or a team of 1 if the artist wants to self produce. We get several episodes where different teams complete the challenge, I sit in with all of them to document their creative process and post each one as its own video. At the end of the series, we put it up to a fan vote and all contestants themselves also have a vote (who isn't themselves). The ultimate goal is showing the creative process to the fans and having fun making a song. By the end of it, we get all the songs together into a nerdcore challenge playlist. I think it would open up the curtains on how everyone is different in their methods.

Who do you think in our community would drop the best song if they were given only 2 hours to work on it?

The form I sent out to everyone I could will say 2 hours to make the beat from scratch with a few sample choices and to do vocals/verse. So from scratch! It will be a challenge to the producers and offer them some time to show who they are since they often are the backbone of our community. I am considering offering harder genres to produce for a little more time on the production side, since it is more complex than the usual rap beats, suggestions from anyone who does that genre are welcomed

In my opinion it’s important to include if you are provided an instrumental or if you have to create it in that time period also. If all you do is write the rap/melody/hook, 2 hours is more than enough time. If you’re also producing the song this could get tight, but it would be easier if you choose to just use samples. Curious which of the 2 the format will be. Regardless I’m excited to see the results!

they will get a sample the day of so there wouldn't be a beat to write to. Freestylers always got something ready so whether there is a topic the day of or not, they will have something. I don't want to restrict them with a topic but this is something good to consider. I also do not want the main goal to be competitive in nature, but rather an environment where they can showcase who they are and be part of a community event. So rules will not be super strict and everyone comes in to just be themselves, instead of trying to cheat the system.

Criteria - be a nerdcore artist. Be able to hop on a call with me sharing the sound and camera.

The point of this is for fans to get to know you better if you are cemented, or get to know you period if you are up and coming. It's more about showcasing who you are in terms of personality and how you face a time constraint to pull up a song. DPS gave a good idea which is I provide each team a set of 3 loops or samples and you have to use 1. This way, no team has time to come up with ideas beforehand. The point is not for this to be a competition but yes fans will vote at the conclusion of the series. At the end of it, I want nerdcore to look back on the songs they made together as a community and say we all came together to make this. Anyone that wants pure competition and isn't down with this vision are more than welcome to conduct their own version but for me, it's to bring us together and have fun, laugh, stumble, get back up, and be closer to each other and to the fans.

This is a great question because it's hard to answer. I'll share my thought process because I haven't come up with a good answer yet.

Since music is about the fans and what resonates with people, the song that gets voted by the crowd to be the best would be a good starting point. The issue is, with such large variation in fanbases, and the fact that people are biased, a big chunk of fans might vote with bias to help their fav artist win.

I hate the idea of judges because they dont always resonate with fans - they might rank a song higher because of some tiny flaw that fans won't notice for example.

So... I don't have an answer, but starting with fans is the most important
