For the R6 Champ 1 grind these are my thoughts about the game. There are too many issues about the ranked system which in my opinion makes the climb impossible as a solo to C1. My grind was solo queue peak to D4, duo to C5, then 5 stack to C1.

Allowing 5 stacks to queue into a solo is stupid. Solo/Duo queue should be its own separate queue like how valorant’s system is. R6 is a super team based and heavy comm game. When I solo queued, I believe 80-90% of my games were completely silent and if someone did speak, it was to complain or talk when it’s the last round and the game was over. Being a solo against a 5 stack is pretty much a loss because a team full of communication + team chemistry will most likely beat a team that isn’t.

The rank difference is just shameless. I’m queueing diamond and having a gold/plat on my team. When I queue champ we have a plat on the enemy team. Like how is that even possible. Almost champ 1 and a plat is in my lobby??? These make the overall matches not even feel competitive and become a insta win/loss.

The point gain and loss. This also has to be because of the rank imbalance as well. First thing is no win streak bonus. Starting from copper and going all the way up to emerald. I pretty much got a flat 20rr every game. Winning 80% of my games it had no effect on my point gain, which doesn’t incentivize good performance or getting people out of ranks they don’t belong in. In some games where you win too much, they give you extra points per win or skip ranks to get you to verse equal skilled players quicker. Next is how much you win and lose. 20rr is pretty much the base but because the enemy team has one rank higher or lower it can nuke the rr gain. When soloing this hurts a lot. I would play in diamond and have a similar balance of teams but this game I lose 30rr and the next game I win only 13rr. I understand the logic where if a full champ team plays against a diamond team. They should only win 10rr and lose more. I get that but considering how the games ranking system is imbalanced, solos can verse 5 stacks and a 5 stack can have one unranked or super low rank on their team. They can essentially alter the rr gain to where I lose 30 and win only 15. The 10 rank difference needs to be fixed.

Lastly is the amount of cheaters and recoil scripters. I got about 100 games rolled back. Which is about 15% of my games. The roll back wave only gave me about 100+ rr because this was when I was pretty much solo queueing my games so it was 50/50 on getting a cheater on my team and enemies. Having rollback is a great feature for a rank system because gaining/losing points you don’t deserve matters. The problem with rollback waves is that someone who generally is emerald rank (despite how many cheaters they verse) gets a 1000+ rr rollback will now be Champ 1. The rollback is good but how much is given at one point affects the quality of players in some ranks. That guy is not Champ 1 skill and should
not be there. In an extreme case, a copper player gaining 4900+ rr rollback and is now Champ 1.

These are my thoughts about the ranking system and why it’s not fit for solo queue. I played 60-70% of the season as an inexperienced player and I think even an experienced player couldn’t solo to Champ 1 in Rank 3.0. Overall my challenge isn’t meant to be only solo and to be able to connect with people in the community. While I want to try to see if I can reach the highest rank solo and gain the skills/knowledge. I can do that while also playing with others and some games just aren’t designed for it.

I personally think I play at a Champ level on some maps (Casino) and Diamond on the others (Lair). Because of the amount of games played on them. R6 is very heavy on map knowledge and if you don’t have the reps on a map, you won’t really know what to do. Also it’s very hard to find people to play with who aren’t already established trusted players. I’m not going to play with random people who could be cheating.

I’ve been reflecting a lot on what trans and nonbinary folk experience in the esports community. I hope this message isn’t too late, given recent events.

There are many issues I could talk about, but I just want to speak on one: there must be an unspoken grief in being trans and seeing your idols vilify you.

I grew up watching CS:GO. My favorite team was Luminosity after Cluj-Napoca in 2015. I remember rushing home from school to scour twitch chats and copy my favorite players’ settings. I cheered when C9 won the Boston Major. And of course I watched all of the Rank S highlights and can still quote the funniest clips from heart, even 11 years later (jeez im old).

Esports was an escape for me, as I’m sure it is for so many of us. Yet, because I am a woman, I watched with dread as my escape was bastardized over the years by influential figures ostracizing women. I saw the same people I looked up to point and laugh and say people like me were inferior, that we could never do what they do, that we don’t belong in esports, that trans women weren’t my friends and were out to get me.

That anguish and betrayal I felt from a community I poured years of my life into is exactly what trans women and nonbinary folk experience times ten. They are esports fans just like anyone else. They’re here as an escape just like anyone else. They don’t want to be treated differently from anyone else. All they want is the same respect you give any other human being.

After asking for something so simple, so basic, they experience far more hate and rejection at the hands of the very people they look up to. All while already living life constantly vilified and questioned. It’s a shame we’ve allowed this radioactive environment to fester here.

To my peers: I promise you some of your biggest fans HAVE BEEN trans and nonbinary folk. Gaming is incredibly diverse, and if you’ve played in front of a crowd, you know this already. They tell others how good you are. They try to copy how you play. They make beautiful art of you and your teams. They wake up early or stay up late to watch your games. They celebrate your successes and feel for your failures. They’re just like any of your supporters.

Thank you to those who know this already. I promise your acceptance doesn’t go unnoticed.

For those who don’t: It’s an incredible opportunity and gift to be someone’s escape in this world. What a waste to squander it.

And to the trans and nonbinary folk reading this: you are welcome here. Existence is resistance. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
