Saturday we brought 65+ volunteers to the West Queen Anne Greenbelt, the spot people call Trash Mountain for Seattle Department of Neighborhoods’ Show Up Seattle day of service.

These trails have been used as camps for years. The garbage is deep. Hoarded stuff sitting there rotting into the soil. Neighbors can see it for themselves: the environmental damage and the human crisis in the same place.

Our crew leads are formerly homeless people in our program. Some are on wages. Some are on stipends like rent help, a phone, gift cards until they are ready for the next step. We meet people where they are. We pick up the trash. We do not leave the person.

More than half of every donation goes to those wages and stipends so this work can happen every week, not just on a city service day.

Trash builds the trust. Then we triage and connect people to services. That is the 4 Ts: Trash. Trust. Triage. Truth.
This is more than a cleanup. It is how we build the team that does this groundwork daily.

Thank you to every volunteer who showed up and to everyone who funds the wages that keep it going after Saturday.

Today, I had a productive call with Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama. Our conversation built on President Trump’s discussion with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi earlier this week and reflected the strength of the U.S.–Japan partnership.

We discussed the desirability of a strong yen that reflects Japan’s strong economic fundamentals, and the importance of staying in close communication on currency markets.

Not sure what you mean by America’s space program being above politics. Leadership has been politically appointed since inception, national space policy is established by the executive branch, oversight and funding come from Congress, and industry lobbies everyone extensively. I would say it has always been very political, and if you love America’s space program, being politically savvy is an asset. I have also donated $30 million to charity this year, which is also not illegal.

When I talked to Gates in person, he said “experts tell me a long range electric semi truck is impossible”.

However, when I asked what his assumptions were about battery energy density and vehicle energy consumption per mile, which are the two numbers needed to determine range, he did not know either number!

I also offered to let him take one of our semi trucks for independent testing, but he declined. Not sure what more I could have done. 🤷‍♂️
