Ok so a few thoughts on the Cornell 7. I have seen a few attys speak up but overwhelmingly the discourse is that they are guilty of rape without anyone having the full facts.

Personally, I find the men’s behavior gross. I would say that to a jury even if I was representing one of them. As the mother of 2 boys, I am trying my best to raise them so they never would make a post or respond in any way like these men did and to help women that appear too intoxicated.

But as a criminal defense attorney, I need to point out that not all terrible behavior is a crime. And we don’t have all the facts yet. Attorney statements or a civil petition is not evidence. Those are carefully worded to support one side. Saying someone is “pressured” into taking drugs or having a threesome is not the same as being drugged without your knowledge or forced.

The message in the group chat, again while disgusting, is not criminal in itself. It does not indicate she was unconscious or uncooperative. There are women that willingly consent to have sex with multiple men at a time.

I’m not condoning the behavior or victim blaming. A thorough investigation should have been done- and not just by the university which has an incentive to minimize allegations of sexual assault on campus. Maybe additional evidence will support filing a criminal case. Or maybe it won’t. But more information is needed to make that decision.

I understand you guys are upset think you should stop posting their photos with that word as legally they’re not. They haven’t been proven to be. There hasn’t been a criminal investigation yet and there hasn’t been a lawsuit yet that will both reveal everything that happened.
